Spark plug leads for 1.9 DG engine

I've just given the ignition system of my 1986 T25 campervan an overhaul, new coil, plugs, leads, and distributor cap. I ordered a set of made up plug leads and to my surprise, because my engine was listed as compatible, they were too short and I had to send them back. I checked other online retaile...

Re: Fuel pump insulator block

My main concern after a year of running problems, having only just sussed out and fixed the main cause, push rod was worn down 3mm, is how fuel pressure varies over time. Fortunately my annual mileage now is low, but I'd be worried after a couple of years if I was doing 20k annual mileage.

Re: Fuel pump insulator block

There's a youtube video which shows someone sanding down the sides of the plastic push rod guide so that it seats down under its own weight rather than having to be forced down to seat correctly. Apparently, if you don't do this simple operation there is a chance that it will stick in the block and ...

Re: Webers on a 1.9 petrol engine

Just thought I'd post an update on my Weber conversion. It's been a couple of weeks now, and I've got accustomed to the van with the new carbs. I can confirm my earlier impressions, it's not just better, it's a vast improvement. The engine runs more smoothly than before, has significantly more power...

Re: Webers on a 1.9 petrol engine

I've found the opposite to be true. Never had issues with pierbergs other than a gasket kit needed after so many years. Before that, the Solex's were equally reliable. Thats 30 years working on all the v-dubs and probably a thousand or more I've worked on. Webers on the other hand are such a pig to...

Re: Webers on a 1.9 petrol engine

I was thinking the same, Paul! I suspect the improvement may be down to the old carb being bad, in which case keeping it Pierburg may have given equal or better results. Interesting it starts well, though. I heard they could be tricky from cold as no chokes. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3003 using Tapatal...

Re: Webers on a 1.9 petrol engine

Sorry, the conversion is only just over a week old and as my mileage is less than 2k/yr, mainly in the summer, I'm afraid it'll be some time before I know mpg. Before I was getting high 20's mpg, and based on my online research of weber conversions I expect a little worse (mid 20's maybe?), but with...

Webers on a 1.9 petrol engine

I've had my T25 for around three and a half years now, and the whole time up to a week ago it was always difficult to start on it's awful pierberg carb. Towards the end the carb also decided to stop working altogether on several occasions which resulted in me getting to know my local AA man on first...

Re: Soundproofing the van

My camper is far too noisy, but I don't think, short of stripping out the interior and applying sound proofing everywhere, much can be done. The engine cover, for example, sits under a well fitted 3 inch foam mattress, so what's the point of adding more sound deadening material to the engine cover i...

Re: t 25 respray

Ghost123uk, if you decide to put some transfers on please post pictures, it might jog me into doing the same. There are hundreds of good designs on eBay and prices are very attractive, but I'm worried about quality of cheap stickers, and how long will they last? Looking at campers and caravans as ma...

Re: t 25 respray

Just got my van resprayed and it cost £4k, but as others have said it all depends on how bad it was to begin with. I think the garage I used did a good job (Morris Young Motors, Scunthorpe), only time will tell, but as a general tip I would tell whoever you use that you will pop in from time to time...

Re: Leisure battery

Thanks for the info. This camper van lark is a steep learning curve, but a pleasant change nonetheless from the increasingly high tech world I've been struggling, and just about coping with until recently. I take it from the replies that my idea would work, but relying on ones memory to make the swi...

Leisure battery

OK, I'm prepared to be shot down in flames because this must have been asked a million times, and is so obvious it must have occurred to a million other people already, but I couldn't find anything after a quick search, so here goes. I've just bought an '88 1.9 camper and found that it doesn't have ...
