Re: Cracked HT lead problem??
I had similar symptoms to you on one trip. Let the fuel get pretty low, hesitation, stalling at low revs, slow to accelerate, but better under acceleration. Replaced fuel filter by petrol tank, and cleaned the cone shaped filter in the carb. Fairly straight forward after a bit of research on here. H...

Re: Mot Emissions and fog light fail, help!
Mine almost failed on the fog light not working. Luckily mine came on when I cleaned the contacts on the lamp and the fitting before the tester had finished. Hopefully its that easy for you too. No idea on the carb, ive learnt on here that there are other things to check before adjusting things blin...

Re: Changing oil help. I have 4l of GL4 now what.
Yes definitely. Went to another branch of the same wholesales, they took the incorrect one and gave me back the right one and £20 cash
Job done, panic over. It was quite straight forward really, and the drain plug magnet was pretty clean? All ready for a road trip next week

Re: Changing oil help. I have 4l of GL4 now what.
Hi, I'm in pretty much the same position, I even have my m10 bolt and 2 nuts. :) Sorry for the thread jack. I have just been for oil and the only 75w90 they had was fully synthetic. Should I return my 4 litres £44 comma mvmtf 75w90 fully synthetic gear oil? It does say gl4 on the back, and vw, and g...

Re: CAN'T GET INTO FIRST AND THIRD GEARS?!
Similar happened to me in France this year. You will probably need the rubber boot too to go over it too. Here's the thread https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=122328" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Gear problem in France
hi dearjohn with mine it took a little while to realise that the 2 sets of splines were not locking and moving in unison. When i offered up the old part it seemed to fit on and it did rotate the shaft and change the gears. It was only third time round the gear linkage system, rod dropped and with go...

Re: Gear problem in France
Well that seems to have worked without welding being necessary, quite a simple operation really, Boot on the ball, greased the ball and cup used 2 washers behind the m8 nut. I had ordered a new boot too. The gears now seem a lot closer together ie very sloppy previously, however being a van vi...

Re: Gear problem in France
Hi Aidan, thanks for the reply. Just what i wanted to hear. I was wondering yesterday about welding or possibly wrapping thin copper strand criss crossing the splines on the m8 side to get some purchase. Obviously if a weld is needed it will be essential to be in the right position. Would you weld a...

Re: Gear problem in France
From further investigation it seems the splines off the gearbox and lever are worn. Does anyone know of a temporary fix for this whilst I await the part. Many thanks.

Gear problem in France
Hi all. Have had a great time trippping around but I've got a problem. I am in montrieul sur mer nr Calais and I have a 88 4speed dg. Gearbox no 09130110302. From my research this is the case: the joint at the ball lever that goes onto the shift rod and sits inside shift lever covered by a boot. The...
