Re: upholstery recommendations please

Another recommendation for Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers.
Did my front seats using some material supplied by me and vinyl supplied by them.
Quick friendly service worth the 1 1/2 hour trip in the car to drop them off. :ok

Re: Propex Heater Control unit

Perfect. I’m prone to breaking things so was too cautious and using 2 screw drivers worked well. I was hoping to find a hole behind so I could feed some wire through. But alas no large hole. So back to square one. Am fitting some mini LED’s along the underside of the boxed in section. Can’t get acc...

Re: Fridge flue needed if never going to use gas ?

Hi, I run my fridge on gas and 12v. The 12v comes from either the alternator when the engine is running or via a 230vac to 12vdc power supply when on hook up, to control the temp I use a small digital temp controller bought off Ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-50-110-C-Digital-Heat-Cool-Temp-Ther...

Re: Thermostat Hob Test: Height Range for 1.9 DG

Hi, The temp stamped on the thermostat is the start to open temperature, this is the temp the valve has moved 0.1-0.2 mm, the fully open temperature will be approx 14C above the start to open temperature. The displacement over the 14C range will be approx 9mm but this will vary depending on manufact...

Re: Cab noise....

We have an 1982 with very little sound insulation and deadening, just the rubber mats and standard door cards. Recently I have added some Dodo mat to the cab floor, inside the cab doors, inside the sliding door, behind the fridge and inside the boot lid. It has stopped the ringing when you shut the ...

Re: Refurbing cab seats

Hi, The seat base foam pads are available for the early seats as I got some from a place in Germany, not cheap but transformed the seats. The two front seats were recovered by Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers, vinyl sides with fabric base and back. The backs were re fitted with new padding from a roll of st...

Re: Carb/fuel overheating

We also surfer with a similar problem, cold the engine starts very easily, hot after filling up with fuel (5-7mins) the engine will crank quite fast but it is very slow to fire and run. I have had similar problems with motorcycle that did not have good enough insulation between the carb and the inle...

Re: High Top Test Fit - Now Fitted

The 6 small holes are where Devon pop riveted the over head locker into the van originally and they have a habit of leaking through them. How do I know...........

Re: High Top Test Fit

That looks like the seal you have is the same as the one I have on the elevating roof on my Devon. I had a similar problem when I removed and refitted the lower fixed half of the elevating roof. It had a simple C section rubber trim around the edge to make it look better (covers the edge of the fibr...

Re: Early van / electrics, intermittent wiper relay?

From memory fitting the relay into the steering column limits the length of wire runs. If it is fitted into the fuse box area you need to run the wires to and from the steering column.

Re: Early van / electrics, intermittent wiper relay?

Hi, I have done this upgrade, quite easy it is detailed in Wiki under VW Electrics (not camper interior specific). I managed to get a proper VW relay socket so I could plug it in, one issue was finding the electrical crimp connections for the small spade connectors on the relay. All fitted inside th...

Re: Automatic gearbox on hills

No advice on adjustment but I recently topped up the ATF fluid slightly in ours and it appears to be a bit more responsive to dropping down when needed. I don't think the fluid was low but it appears to have made a difference. 3 gears never seem to be enough, I always think you should have another g...

Re: seat reupholstery recommendations

We had our front seats recovered by Bromsgrove Auto Trimmers. Made a nice job of them with some material I supplied and there own supply vinyl for the sides etc.
Think they turned them round in less than a week but I think they were a bit light on work at the time.
Hope that helps

Re: Automatic T25s - Tell me about them please!

We have a CU engined auto, not the fastest thing about but that is probably due to the engine not the gearbox. Very smooth relaxed driving, will kick down if needed but there is only 3 gears to choose from. I have always felt it would benefit from a higher torque engine to cope better with the limit...

Re: Domestic RM122 fridge help

Hi, thanks for the info on the fans, bit expensive but a good idea. We don't have a upper and lower vent on the side of the van just a Dometic vent for the fridge gas burner, this is an original Devon conversion so they were never fitted to our van. Will look at a pc fan option, just enough to move ...
