Re: new spark fitted now engine won`t idle
guys i`ve done everything correctly .in my younger days i could easily strip and rebuild an escort cross flow engine or a . . pinto and worked as a mechanic for a while . . . Sounds like you'll soon have it sorted then :ok So you haven't done anything else apart from fit new plugs and fit new leads...

Re: new spark fitted now engine won`t idle
Not a suppressor cap....just a different type of terminal fitment ...leaving on or removing is dependant upon the plug cap type fitted. :ok Ah right, thanks for the info. Only mentioned it because it has caused me problems in the past until I saw it mentioned on here somewhere, a good while ago. Tony

Re: new spark fitted now engine won`t idle
At the end of the plug that the lead fits onto, did you remove (i.e. unscrew) the little cap before fitting the plugs? Suppressor cap I think it's called. Not needed.

Does that mean that you have 2 inline fuel filters or, as Ian describes, one inline and one in the carb?

Re: cutting out
Might also be worth considering; lots of petrol in the tank, or just a little bit in there?

A couple of minutes on google suggests that it's the catch for your engine bay lid.

Re: Charging leisure battery with hook up
Where is this black box located in a Westy? Lift the back seat (bed base). Look at the sliding door side. It's that big black box there. There's been a few posts about these chargers John, this one might help you: http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=98435" onclick="window...

Re: New battery, no alternator light and flashing temp gauge!
Still haven't got rid of the flashing temp gauge light despite having checked all manner of connections. We'll get back to it after Leeds. If the cause of this isn't an electrical fault, flashing temp guage light = low water level (apart from the when the self-testing when the engine is started). D...

Re: fridge temp on gas
looking through the pilot window in the lower left corner of the fridge the flame is burning nice and blue so don`t quite understand ? That doesn't sound like a blocked jet though? :? The flame is strong and it's all there as far as you can tell? How long did you leave it running on gas and was you...

Re: Autosleeper thread
Nice work, thanks for the photos, I like all those storage compartments :ok Do you miss the extra bed width that you've lost though? Our lpg tank is in the wardrobe and I'm toying with the idea of removing the wardrobe to see if that'll make it easier to fit a 3 point seatbelt on that side of the va...

Re: Autosleeper thread
I had the same problem so I made a small removeable locker on the opposite side to the wardrobe where I stow my levelling ramps and hook-up cable. I made a narrow drawer to fit into the cut out at the bottom of the wardrobe where I stow the jack and wheel brace. I made a norrower parcel shelf and b...

Re: problems with cooling system
Its a 1.9 defo, mainly because VW never made a 2lt that looks like that  Second, you dont need the over flow, i didnt fit one in mine and have ZERO problems of coolant loss If this engine doesn't need an overflow tank (as you say, lots of other engines don't have them), does the dalek cap ...

Re: problems with cooling system
Many thanks for that Ewen - if low coolant can get the red light flashing which in turn causes the gauge to go to max as you say then i think you could be right about the possibility of the problem being caused simply by low coolant levels as the header tank was way below full . . . Ooh, just notic...
