Re: T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Oldiebutgoodie Colour is the same (pink) as it was recently changed. Will check the oil cooler area. Thanks Cecil. There is the same amount of coolant in the top up container (behind flap) and the level is correct. I've been topping up the expanion bottle (blue cap). Not sure what this metal plate i...

Re: T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Yep, I think I'll take your sound advice and change the water pump. Putting the car away until March, so will do it over the winter.
Thanks again for your advice + time..

Re: T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Hi I did as you suggested. I doubt if it's the head gasket. No water mixing with oil. Also, when the coolant leaks it collects on the right side of the metal cover (above the head. When hot, it must be excaping from somewhere. The techie in Brickwerks said it the hoses & flanges are ok, it must ...

Re: T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Hi
no overheating.
I don't think the metal tray is anything to do with the alternator as the metal plate is under the fuel injection on the right side.
Thanks

Re: T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Hi
If this pic is no good, I'll take some more later.
Attached is a pic If you look down behind the alternator. There is some coolant below the 2 hoses.
To the lift above the 2 hoses, is a metal tray where coolant also collects.

T3 1.6TD loss of coolant mystery
Hi I spotted evidence of coolant on the right side of the rocker cover tray. No evidence of any leaking hoses or flanges. Cleaned it up, topped up the expansion bottle (blue cap) drove 90 miles, and again, coolant was in the same spot. Blue cap + thermostat are new. Could it be a worn 'O' ring (belo...

T25 1.6td coolant loss
Hi In May, on route back to the UK, the red temp light started to flicker. I limped home, topping up every time the red temp light came on. In June my mechanic changed the thermostat + coolant. Not sure if he just removed a hose and drained it, then filled without bleeding. They did not remove the f...

1988 T25 1.6TD towing capability
Hi
I bought a Fiat 500. Weight: 556 kgs. I want to transport it on a small car trailer. Weight 500 kgs.
Can I tow the trailer & car legally with my 1988 Westfalia Joker 1.6TD in the UK?
What is the towing capability of a 1.6 TD Westfalia Joker?
Many thanks

Re: Advice; How to remove an '89 Vanagon GL steering lock
Yes after around 6 months of being parked up I expect the battery is flat and possibly engine needs work. There's also a clip on steering lock attached to the pedal but that can be easily removed. I got a tow charge which was 3850 for 1000 kms. So I'd like to try and aviod that by trying it myself t...

Re: Advice; How to remove an '89 Vanagon GL steering lock
Ok thanks. It would be helpful to know how to disconnect the steering before I place a bid! I could then fly up and drive it to the nearest MOT garage, then get a steering lock fitted. So if someone would like to send me a PM with this infomration, that would help me decide whether to bid on the veh...

Hi Hope to buy a 1989 Vanagon GL at an auction but unfortunately, there are no keys. Could anyone explain the process + what tools I need to disconnect the steering lock to remove and start the car? Can I get an ignition + side door key cut from any VW dealer if I give them the chassic no? Many thanks
