Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
To conclude - No3 injector was removed and found to be dribbling at just over 100 psi. Fuel was visible in the swirl 'pools' on top of the piston....A new injector has cured all - running sweetly again and no smoke! Thanks to all who helped steer me in the right direction.

Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
Well, this morning, I put the old No 3 injector pipe back on, started up and bled. Noticed the engine ran quite well whilst bleeding . When nipped up, NO FUEL SPRAYING OUT where leak was originally spotted! Same horrid knocking from engine when 'opened up' , BUT with the same no 3 injector pipe slac...

Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
OBG - yes, in the sense that I tweaked the No 4 pipe ever so slightly [ without slackening its union nuts] to avoid a contact with the new no 3 pipe. Also at the initial fire up after the repair I did briefly Slacken and nip up each injector union [in turn ] to see that fuel was issuing. It was. Aft...

Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
Thank you for taking the time to post [especially on a Bank Holiday!] Have done as you both suggest, bleeding over the course of several minutes. The engine eventually settled and sounded normal on tickover. So I gradually opened the throttle to 'fast tickover'. At a certain point, the revs. seemed t...

Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
Before fitting the new injector pipe I did test to see it was clear [blowing through it]. I have started the engine twice and on both occasions run it for a minute, then stopped it, horrified by the shuddering and noise. Not keen to start it again, for fear of causing damage : could it already be dam...

Re: No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
As best can be measured, using a piece of string, the new pipe appears to be approx 8mm longer than the original...

No 3 injector pipe changed.engine sounds terrible...
Hi there. My 1989 1.6 td [jx] van passed its MOT a day ago [bar a spot of rust}. However, coming back from the test, smelled unburned diesel. Stopped, to find injector pipe on no 3 cylinder spraying out just above the union nut [engine end]. Fitted a new pipe from Brickwerks. Engine started ok, but ...

Re: 1.6 td coolant 'migrating'
A shame that it was not possible to do the sniff test, and I have now fouled up my own cooling system. Anyway,as you recommend, head off (plus timing belt) and we'll see where we are...... Unless it happened at the original 'migration of coolant' incident,I am confidant it has not been cooked .This ...

Re: 1.6 td coolant 'migrating'
Only now getting time to look in more detail; thanks for the replies, and I too was thinking head gasket.Took it to my local engine rebuilders for a sniif test of the coolant as suggested, but they were unable to do the test as all the coolant would gush from the header tank, and they could not see a ...

1.6 td coolant 'migrating'
After an hour of driving at 66 mph on the motorway, during the hot weather last week, on came the 'low coolant' flashing red light. Coasted on to the hard shoulder immediately, engine off.The water temp needle was well over to the right. The dalek cap reservoir appeared empty, but the expansion tank beh...

Re: 1989 1.6 turbo diesel coolant leak
Thanks for the encouragement n-tom.Only now getting onto the job( with the luxury of a pit to work in). And it is not looking good........ First, had to saw off the half nut holding the turbo oil pipe clamp in position. The housing 'studs' were easy to get out.The housing cracked in two places and the...

Re: Leaking Fuel Return Pipe on a JX Question
Hi there - just had this problem myself. The blanking plug - only two months old from "a motor factor" failed catastrophically - squirting out a jet of fuel. The result was that air gets into the fuel lines and fuel starvation can (did)occur and the engine would not start. Hope this helps....

1989 1.6 turbo diesel coolant leak
hi there - my first post on here,so here goes....
I have traced a coolant leak to the housing for the glowplug relay temperature sender,on the front face of the cylinder head.
Am wondering if anyone has advice on what to expect by way of a repair , before I get stuck in....
cheers,steve.
