Also bear in mind that some French campsites have reversed polarity on the hook ups. Buy a polarity tester and have a small extension lead made up that effectively reverses the pins on your hook-up lead.

Yes, DM, that is a water tank filler. The tank is slung under the van, just inboard of the sliding door. If you look closely you can just see the orange drain tap behind the front wheel.

I've got a Reimo that is a very similar design (I think) to the Carthago. It's a 'Primus' and roof spares are blinking impossible to come by. Could you install a switch to select which LB is charging? A bit of a faff having to change over but at least it means you won't be overloading the alternator.

Maybe I'll stick with the tacky hardboard as those battery terminals are pretty close to the top of the boxes.

Can someone tell me, or even better post a picture of what should be covering the batteries in my van. At the moment they are covered by pretty (and I don't mean good looking) flimsy pieces of hardboard that a previous owner has screwed down.

I'm with Britannia Rescue. Costs about £110 a year. That covers myself and my wife driving any vehicle in the UK and the camper is specified for European breakdown as well.
