Re: Why won't my engine start :(
Thanks for the replies chaps, apologies I always forget to say what engine it is in my posts! So why not add it to your signature so's it's at the bottom of every post you make ... e.g. 1981 2.0 CU Aircooled, 5 speed manual. Fair point, i'd been wondering what to put on my signature so that'll do!

Re: Why won't my engine start :(
Thanks for the replies chaps, apologies I always forget to say what engine it is in my posts! It's a 2.0 CU Aircooled, and have to admit I wrote down the list as my boyfriend dictated it so I'll take your word for it about no timing belt hehe, shows how clueless I am! They've been back at it today a...

Why won't my engine start :(
I'm hoping someone can help shed some light on why my van continues to infuriate me and refuse to start! It started a while back when the whole left bank seemed to shut down, I ended up dropping it out and sending it to Laurie Pettit as he came so highly recommended and we suspected a cracked head w...

Re: Whats this part?
It's the thermostat, it operates the cooling diverter flaps inside the tinware and is very important. Was the picture taken with the engine hot or cold? If cold then it's knackered - it should only be expanded to it's fullest, (like your picture), when it's hot. See this page for an explanation and...

Whats this part?
Can anyone tell me what this coil thingy is please and what its meant to connect to? I've just had my engine back after being repaired and during the installation we discovered the wire which comes out from this coil has been cut at some point (at the other end obviously), and we have no idea what i...

Exhaust silencer studs?
My engine was dropped out last week and put on a pallet to wing it's way to the legendary Laurie Pettit for a rebuild, only thing is to make it fit the pallet I had to take the silencer off and a couple of the studs sheared off. I was considering buying a new one anyway as there's a little dent in t...

Re: Engine dilemma
Thanks for the advice Tim, I think I might give Laurie Pettitt a ring, haven't heard of him before but did a search and he has an amazing reputation (as I'm sure you know), couldn't find a single bad word about the guy! Now that's the kinda work I can trust!

Re: Engine dilemma
Sarran thank you very much for the offer, my boyfriend is a plumber as it happens... but i don't think we'd be able to make it over there for some time, we have a house move, possible job loss and a few other trials to get through in the next few months, the van certainly wouldn't make it that far e...

Re: Mileage Counter
Ahhh ok makes sense thanks all, so i just double checked mine and its 6 digits but the last one is red indicating its the point x of a mile, so with it showing 95668 then i can only assume its 195,668. But how do you know how many times its been round, it could be 295,668 for all i know? Or is it ju...

Mileage Counter
This is probably a really stupid question, but please humour me... How far does a T25 mileage counter go before it re-sets? I've heard people talk about a vehicle being 'twice around the clock' which I assume means it gets so high and starts back again, and my van shows about 99k which definitely is...

Re: Engine dilemma
have you looked at Elite VW? I had a nasty experience of engine shop...do a search on here. Em xx Thanks Em i was a little suspicious of them going by the price - you get what you pay for as they say! I also read somewhere the gold and green engines should be avoided! Must admit though after search...

Re: Engine dilemma
Thanks all, some great info and advice here! The cost makes sense now on the recon / re manufactured subject, I think from what MM is saying and from advice I got elsewhere, the Remtec would be the preferable option. I called up a local reputable VW garage for a quote to rebuild my engine, and got t...

Engine dilemma
Well less than 4 months into ownership of my new van i'm not having much luck. First i get done over on a bodywork job (although thankfully got this sorted thanks to the help of 8090!) and now my 2ltr CU engine has gone kaput :( well, good as anyway, its still running for now but with a suspected cr...
