Re: Coolant leak from head stud?
I decided that I needed to try and tackle this leak. It was nerve wracking undoing the nut but it eventually gave with a series of sharp cracks! I gave the face of the nut a good clean and did what I could to the seat on the head. A bead of sealant and torqued back up I left it a couple of days befo...

Re: Coolant leak from head stud?
Thanks for the reply Itchy. I realise that messing with head studs is often a twitchy bum moment but it is leaking more than I would like. I'd guess as much as 500ml a fortnight if I'm using the van a lot. I have at least been good at flushing and changing the coolant while under my ownership. I'll ...

Coolant leak from head stud?
I appear to be losing coolant from a slight weep around a head stud/nut. Is this likely? It is difficult to trace but it does seem to be coming from above cylinder 3, top left, rearmost of the engine. I have read that sealant should be used in engine assembly, is it likely that this could be the cau...

Re: Advice please - Rapid backfire and misfire
Thanks Kev and Marlin. I wanted to get to this sooner but life keeps getting in the way! I picked up a new fuel filter and replaced it while draining some fuel from the tank. The fuel was clear but there did appear to be a few droplets of water on the bottom of the jar. The fuel I drained out of the...

Re: Advice please - Rapid backfire and misfire
Interesting, that could be a relatively easy fix. Thank you.
Does that mean I would also have water in my float chamber?

Advice please - Rapid backfire and misfire
Hello, hoping some of you can help. My van has been a joy to drive of late, particularly since winding the mixture screw out a touch at the MOT last month. Today it died on me unexpectedly and refused to start, the symptoms would imply fuel starvation, which I have suffered on the odd, random occasi...
Re: bed plans
I have nearly finished something similar in our Caravelle. It's not a rock & roll as I wanted to retain the original seats. I will see what I can do about taking and posting some pics.

Re: Skateboard question
Im right footed and rode left foot forward for many years. However, i pushed with my left foot, and kept the right foot planted over the back wheels (twisting the foot as needed). Not uncommon, i always felt far more natural like that and lets you have a massive push. Great sport or hobby. Brillian...

Re: What can you tell me about gas welding?
I am hoping to get into a spot of coachbuilding - I have been trying to find a suitable chassis for a while now and have located and Austin Seven chassis that has been used as a tractor and then left to rot. Ideally I would be hand forming an ally body so being able to aneal sheets of ally prior to ...

Re: What can you tell me about gas welding?
Lots of good replies here thank you. It is the versatility of gas that apeals but it does seem that it is not too welcome around domestic properties!
I would dearly love a nice TIG set up but am really after the ability to weld ally, suitable TIG sets are out of my price range

Great stuff Mike - thanks a lot for all the info, very useful.
Today the nice old bloke who had offered to lend me his Saffire 3 torches has said he would give them to me if I do follow through with setting myself up with gas. Which was nice!!
