Is my van dead? How do I sell the Westfalia parts? URGENTish

I've blown a head gasket and I think it is going to cost too much to fix, especially when you consider that the van has rust in all the usual places, so today I'll probably tell the garage not to bother. But what do I do with the interior? Is it worth money? Anybody want an original fully working Cl...

That's not a bad idea, although the intention is to buy a new steering wheel when I can get round to finding something suitable second-hand. I also need to address the rather depressing thoroughly-rusted-gutter issues, on driving back into Europe it rained on the van after many dry months and it spr...

Just for those searching this forum who have similar problems: The stiff steering was related to poor tyres / low tyre pressure, I changed them and it is lovely and light now. The scraping noise was where a part of the circular copper ring that makes the connection for the horn had come loose and mo...

I'm in Esfahan just now but I'm about to leave and head back towards Turkey. As long as the van makes it I've got friends there who I can stay with while I get it sorted. It'll be easier to get parts too. Then Syria... Thanks for the offer of help though; I've been humbled by how generous people are...

Help! New engine in Iran?

I need advice. I've been busy driving my 1985 1.6TD vaguely eastwards, and along the way - around about the 2000th mountainous climb - the engine has developed a few problems. It all seemed to start somewhere in Kurdistan when the internal radiator (the one that provides heating to the rear on club ...

Also. toomanytoys, I see you are in Central France, I'm currently in Tours at the moment and was wondering if you knew of 1. A good garage and 2. A place where I can buy those thermo mat thingys? I hear they are the DBs; I was in the Alpes a few weeks ago and EVERYONE had them. I'm hoping they work ...

Ha! Yes, bog roll! I know from experience how amazingly important that sometimes is. I'll be bulk buying on that front. A friend of mine also converted me to the wonders that are wet-wipes, which I'll also be buying en mass. I went on a trip with her once (in an overly flowery T2) and was very skept...

Thanks sherlock. Road trips are not exclusively available to people who know how to fix engines. I have already driven 11'000 miles around America and something similar in Europe and I am very sure that I can handle most places. I'm not a mechanic so if something goes wrong it will cost me more mone...

T25 goes round the world - Spares?

OK, so I'm preparing for a little roadtrip to the Middle East / India / China... and I am trying to plan what I should take in the way of spare parts. I'm not super engine savvy so I would probably search a man that can if anything happend but I know that if I already have some the basic parts on ha...

Fridge stopped Clicking for gas

Westy Club Joker 1985 My (3 way elextrolux) fridge has stopped lighting on gas, when I try to light it by holding in the gas and ignition button I hear no clicking anymore. In fact I am not even sure if it is working on battery either. I have gas as the cooker works and I'm fairly sure the pilot lig...

I should have said before but I hear a scraping noise when I steer, sort of a plastic against plastic sound - not that I'm accoustically qualified in any way. It seems to come from within the steering wheel column, higher up rather than lower.
