number plate lights both out
Hi :pimp mot coming up next week and noticed number plate lights both out. Changed both the bulbs but no joy. Are they connected to one of the rear lenses or do they run back to fuse box? Bit short on time so would appreciate a pointer before I get too carried away. Led strips going on if its too mu...

E X C E L L E N T N E W S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHES ALL SORTED AND GOING LIKE A (1.6TD) TRAIN AGAIN!!! John Goldsmith at Volksworld in Lydd is a proper old school VW mechanic. He found cambelt was tooth out, changed fuel pump/LDA and timed her up perfectly and she fired up after much priming and...

Re: Loss of performance 1.6TD
AJsimmo thanks for thoughts. Was advised to change them to cure white smoke and one was making tapping sound. Its ok in all respects other than its gutless and chucking out enough smoke to warrant being pulled over by the cops. Hoping this guy sat will be able to sort performance with this pump he h...

V-Lux,
Smoke is white/grey I think. Cant really decide if its oily of diesel smell, hard to say. Probably more diesel. Will get this guy Saturday to cast his beady eye over it. Thanks

Re: Loss of performance 1.6TD
Thanks V-Lux for your help. Have verified injectors ordered are correct today and also confirmed they are fitted/seated correctly, so it appears they are not to blame.. But after some ringing round, it is clear that the LDA should be opening fully and not halfway as mine is. I have located second ha...

Re: Loss of performance 1.6TD
Thanks very much for info AJSIMMO. I think you are right. Ever since those injectors were fitted,(Bosch New units from GSF parts)the problem began. If what you are saying is correct, either GSF sold me the wrong ones (they looked identical) or they were fitted incorrectly. I will check around inject...

Loss of performance 1.6TD
Hello, thanks for advice with fuel filter. Bought correct one, fitted it and shes starting nicely again. BUT...I have a serious drop in performance since undergoing various jobs in the summer. All the belts were replaced along with the gaskets and seals. I had 4 new injectors, 3 glow plugs and 2 new...

Re: 1.6 Diesel Turbocharger 1984 T25
If I were you I would look at a 1.9TD Golf engine conversion. You could pick up a 1994 Golf/seat ibeza tdi for £4-500 and drive it home as donor vehicle. I had a 1.6d non turbo and performance was grim.

Re: fuel filter & Turbo questions 1.6td
Thanks for your help. Thought that may be the case, but I did get it from GSF so am surprised they sent me wrong filter. Useful to know what fitting is for though. In Germany at mo or I'd be on the blower to them. Vielen Dank

Re: 1.6 Turbo Diesel Turbo problem..
Turns out Turbo was running enough boost whilst fitted to van, but fyi the company you recommended wanted £235 upwards to recon the turbo and would need 4 days to complete and return the unit. Thanks for info

fuel filter & Turbo questions 1.6td
Seasons Greetings to all, my latest van has been causing me no end of grief since I did some preventitive maintenance. What started as seals, belts and gaskets overhaul turned into new injectors, injector pipes, glow plugs and starter motor! £520 later and van still running awful. Had to have diesel sp...

Re: 1.6 Turbo Diesel Turbo problem..
Thanks for link, will give them a call. It seems crankshaft seals were to blame for tailgate splatter. Replaced them and now there is not a spot on tailgate after blat up the motorway. So nice to have that sorted. Time to get other stuff done, never ends..one job allways turns into several! Thanks, ...
