Re: Solex Carb Expert Needed for Advice!
Apart from the cut off, it is also the idling jet, size g52.5 for the twin carb and larger g55 for the single carb (it has to supply four cylinders). The 1700/1800 Bay window engines used a smaller g50 jet, check you have not had one of them fitted previously, anything can have been done to these v...

Re: Solex PDSIT 34 Fuel Cut Off Valves
Cheers for that, they are now soaking in cleaner, on a side note I disconnected the wire to the bypass cut off valve on the left carb and the engine still ran fine, should this be the case?
The plunger is operating as it should, I have taken this and soaked it just in case.
Cheers

Solex PDSIT 34 Fuel Cut Off Valves
HI All, I'm having a problem with the carbs on my 2.0l CU Aircooled, it seems to be with the Fuel Cut off Valves, not the idle cut off valve but the one that is on both carbs. If you pull off the connector on the right one the engine judders a bit but does not stall, If you pull off the left one the...

Re: Poor hot start but once it does it will fire again and again
I had this problem with my first bus, it turned over but wouldn't fire up when hot, I came to the conclusion it was because the petrol was evaporating out of the carb. When I got it looked at the heat had melted the float on the valve in the carb. Funny you mention this, yesterday after a long run ...

Re: Poor hot start but once it does it will fire again and again
Yes it could be either.of those suggestions above. Or Float height (flooding) Is this a twin carb ? If so are they balanced. Timing checked ok Weak spark. Timing all good, twin carb freshly balanced, Not check the float height, Originally I was thinking week spark, but because once it fires it will...

Poor hot start but once it does it will fire again and again
Air cooled CU 2.0 standard except electric fuel pump. Hi all, I've had this problem since owning my van but never been able to solve it, she starts on the button from cold but when it's hot and you leave it cool for 10mins it takes ages of cranking to start, but then when it does eventually fire up ...

Re: Ran out of fuel and now missing and Backfiring :(
Hi All, Just to wrap up my problem, as you see so many open ended posts on here. Bought a new fuel tank and replaced all rubber breather hoses, glad I did as they were quite perished at the ends and the rubber inlet gasket was 70% self-amalgamating tape! Found the fuel sender problem to be a split h...

Re: Erratic Timing on a Volkswagen T25 CU Aircooled
Just bought a Gunson carb balancer thingy, in the middle of replacing the tank due to the fact that I let it run out of fuel the other day and it ran really bad afterwards, tank was hellish rusty so I'm glad it happened, I'll report back after the weekend to see if balancing them has improved my run...

Re: Ran out of fuel and now missing and Backfiring :(
OK folks, can I throw this into the conversation. I have often thought that so many folks get this wrong, but maybe I'm missing something -> The open end of the feed pipe in the tank sits very close to the lowest part of the tank doesn't it (obviously). Now, consider the van has say 4 gallons of fu...

Re: Ran out of fuel and now missing and Backfiring :(
As expected, I think I have crud from the tank in the carb, took off the fuel pipes leading to the carb and cranked the engine a few times and there are rusty deposits in the fuel In view of the fact you have recently fitted a new fuel filter, this shouldn't be happening, unless that new filter is ...

As expected, I think I have crud from the tank in the carb, took off the fuel pipes leading to the carb and cranked the engine a few times and there are rusty deposits in the fuel, I tried the old hand over running carb method to "pull" the crap through, this seemed to work for 200 yards o...

It has been replaced recently, its an opaque plastic one but you can see that there is a little black sediment in it.jrt wrote:What does the fuel filter look like, probably picked up crap from the empty tank?
