Re: Why should we have our holiday in Scotland next year
Because it's the bestest country in the whole wide world: - Incredible Scenery (mountains, beaches, islands, rugged coastlines, rolling hills - it has everything) - Underpopulated (I find that a lack of general public on holiday is a good thing) - Good food and drink (with emphasis on the latter) - ...

Re: Overheating Issue
Hi Pups,
With respect to the hot starting issue, did you have your foot flat to the floor on the throttle when turning the key? I believe that's the correct hot starting proceedure with the 1.9 watercooled petrol and it's certainly what I have to do with mine.....
Good luck.

Re: Testing Radiator Fan
Just to say thanks for the advice :ok . Bypassed the thermoswitch and by shorting the two wires together and the fan booms in. Think I'll rig me up one of those manual switch devices as a failsafe while I wait for a new thermoswitch. Final question, just to confirm, Im guessing by the fact that Ive ...

Re: Testing Radiator Fan
Cheers Lads, much appreciated. I'll try bypassing the switch this morning once I'm done at work and see if that kicks the fan in. In terms of reconnecting to the switch if the fan does kick in, I can't remember (didnt take note at the time) which connections the wires were connected too when I start...

Re: Testing Radiator Fan
Thanks for that pal. That's a lot easier than Id thought. I'll ty that in the morning.
Fan's definitely not kicking in as the needle gets right up to max without the fan coming on - is making any kind traffic a somewhat stessful experience! Off on hols in it tomorrow too

Testing Radiator Fan
Evenin’ all, I have a 1.9 DF. I’m trying to test the radiator temperature sensor as the fan isn’t kicking in when the engine warms up. I’m following the instructions on the wiki. All seems simple enough though I appear to have hit a stumbling block. Please refer to the attached pic. As I understand ...

Re: MPG
Agreed. I calculated 24mpg from my DF on a recent 500-miler around Scotland. I was quite chuffed!

Re: DF Perfomance Expectations
Thanks everyone, much appreciated. Sounds like it's defintely not behaving itself properly. It had an engine service (new oil, sparks, filters etc) about 3k ago before I bought it but it obviously needs a tune-up. She's got her MOT next week so I'll see what the mechanic says and whether he fancies ...

DF Perfomance Expectations
Morning all, Couldn't find anything in the archives regarding DF performance expectations so thought I'd post. I have a 1.9 DF engine in my 1982 high-top. I've not had it long and have only done just over 1000 miles in it so still getting used to her. So, just back from a trip around the Scottish Hi...

Re: Camping with a baby
Nice one Dan, thanks for the photos and desciption. You should be proud of that! You do commissions?! Just kidding, something like that would be ideal and, with the assistance of a mates Mum and her sewing machine, I fancy it shouldnt be too tricky. We just have our little 'un downstairs in the bed ...

Re: Camping with a baby
Mrdandandan,
I was thinking of doing something similar with our van (installing a custom net to keep the little 'un in the hightop when sleeping), so I'd be really interested to see a photo or two!

Crikey, I came on to post a question about exactly this issue as I'm having these problems with mine. Problem solved (or at least diagnosed. Hopefully).

Re: Trip to Highlands (Any advice)
That's a belting trip you've got planned there Kev. I live in Aberdeen and drive that area regualrly, so my pennies worth would be to avoid the A9 route from Aviemore down to Perth unless you're in a rush. There aint a huge amount to see, it's just a fast road full of caravans. Instead, take the A93...

Re: Camping with kids - dodgy features of any conversions?
Thanks for that, good tips. I appreciate the benefits of a solid-sided poptop over a high-top, though do you ever find the lack of extra storage space an issue? Guess that comes down to the pop vs high-top debate and Im sure that's been debated once or twice on this site.....
