Re: Coolant issue, low pressure tank filling up
Sorry to be a long time replying to this. With lockdown I haven't been playing with my camper much, and not checking in on the club either. I took my van to Revesby Garage, who are VW beetle and van specialists. Lucky for me they are just up the road from me! They were able to take the cylinders off...

Re: Coolant issue, low pressure tank filling up
Often a failing compression seal will not leak under idling or free revving, only under load, due to insufficient cylinder pressure being created to breach the seal. Under full load the temperature and peak pressure achieved is much higher, and a tiny bubble of gas can be forced past the seal on ea...

Re: 1.9DG starts and runs then stalls.
Possibly a pinhole leak in your fuel line. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine when touring Scotland a few years back. New fuel lines sorted it. The fuel pump sucks in small air bubbles and so starves the carb of fuel.

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but are you operating the automatic choke by pressing the throttle pedal to the floor a couple of times before starting?

HT leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm and vacuum hoses are always a good bet to avoid future problems in those areas.
Consider changing the oil in the gear box too. Although it's supposed to last for ever, the black crud that came out of mine showed that it was a worthwhile exercise.

Most of your questions are answered in the WIKI or by searching previous threads on this web site. Unless your van has had a non standard engine implanted, there are no points, so no point gap to worry about. I admire your bravery in buying a van without starting it up! That's what I call faith in t...

Re: Insulation- The Science
My experience with insulation and prevention of condensation relates to buildings, not camper vans, but the science is the same. The YouTube video explains this pretty well, but there are a couple of other things to consider. If the loose fill fibreglass insulation becomes wet, it acts like a sponge...

Re: Camper grill blows out after flaring
Propane or butane? Cooking fuels must be in a gaseous state before they can be used with a stove. Standard butane boils at 31 degrees F, while propane boils at -43 degrees F. This means that if you are cooking in freezing weather, butane will not work well because it will remain in a liquid state. Y...

Re: Starting Problem
Happy New Year too! Are you hot starting using the accelerator pedal correctly? I believe you are supposed to gradually increase the gas while turning the starter, increasing the amount until it fires. I have sometimes had to almost put the pedal to the floor before it catches. Obviously, ease off a...

Re: Speedo adjustment
That's really interesting - thanks. I always thought that if my speedo was registering 10% high, the odometer was always counting high too. So possibly not the case. I'm not sure I will go to the trouble of adjusting as you did. I can work out the actual speed quite easily as 55 mph indicated is act...

I had a nasty noise from the front nearside once. It turned out to be the water tank filler tube rubbing on the tyre when near full lock. Sorted with a cable tie.

I would check / replace the plastic pedestal too as it can bind on the pushrod when the engine is hot.

The problem with a high blue light content is your iris does not close down so...
