Just going off the figures folks have chipped in, Steve. Reading this thread, 17-18 mpg is average.

Shall stop harping on now.

I think the last stroker crank I bought was about £450, that was for an Aircooled engine, about 10 years back. Much more work than meets the eye! I'll try VW, but I still have the prob that my spare engine is the early type of case.

Cheers,

Top info!

Pity that my spare case is the early type. The one in the van is the later type though.

Are the longer stroke cranks readily available?

The 2.1 crank fits in the DG case then? Set of short rods required I suppose or maybe the pistons have a different pin height?

Off to do a search for compatibility and a list of parts needed.

Thanks,

Sounds like a lot of bother for an (otherwise) stock engine as in my case. I think I'll leave it there.

Many thanks for the gen.

I think so. JK indicate that this is the case here where they have a late tank and filler sold as suitable for early vehicles. It is JK though..

Oversize Pistons for DG Engine

I was browsing through a Volksworld mag and noticed somewhere selling 'recon' watercooled engines with oversize cyls & pistons, giving a displacement of around 2 litres. Now are they (or me!) getting their air and water mixed up? If not, where can I get a set? Are they any good or are they dodgy...

I was only LPG'd yesterday and on the 95 mile trip (65mph-ish) between fills, I used 25 litres. This works out about 17.3mpg. 1.9 poptop westy.

Looking at what other folks get, this seems about the norm. On figures given on this thread, mpg varies between 14.6 and 22.2, average 17.8.

I sleep better in the van (Westy) than I do at home. I also sleep better 'upstairs' than 'downstairs' in the van.

Maybe it's something to do with the amount of ale I consume whilst away camping?

Many thanks for the info. Another bonus is that it would hide my scabby looking canvas!

Sounds great. How do they fit? Are they one piece? Had a look on Brickwerks site and can't see a pic.

Thanks,

Pop top thermal wrap

Hello all. As anyone with a canvas sided pop top will vouch, it's a bit on the cold side up there for 2 to 3 seasons a year. It's little use putting the heater on, as the laws of physics are disobeyed in VW's and the heat doesn't rise. I've heard that you can get a sort of thermal wrap for the outsi...
