 I'll try the fridge-on-its-head trick next  This was the first time in ages I'd put the fridge on, and the first time in even longer that I'd connected it to the mains, so I dont know whether it was working before I plugged it in and it went pop, or whether it had been dead for a while :?...

Re: Dead fridge!
this "transformer thingy" is it a transformer or just an RCD unit? you don't mention the model number is it an elecrolux? when the fridge is out you may find it is a broken element or corroded wire/connection Hmm, yes, "transformer thingy". I think that demonstrates my level of ...

Dead fridge!
Hmmm, is this a campers question or a technical question...? :? Anyway, my two-way fridge is dead on both mains and battery. I was hoping to test the fridge by disconnecting it from the van and running it straight from the mains, but on closer inspection I realise that the 240V runs via a transforme...

Seized clutch
Clutch seized... bits of clutch plate in the flywheel.
Clutch fixed by mechanic.
So.... is the disintegrating clutch something to worry about in isolation or is it likely to be indicative of a bigger problem, or to have damaged something else as it malfunctioned?

There used to be a firm of converters called Canterbury Pitt that did conversions on Splits and early bays, but I think they went out of business many years ago. Hmmm, definitely says 'CanterBerry' (sic. Thats not a typo). It might just be a sticker from a dealer, I suppose... I'll post up some pho...

Flashing light, no temp gauge = very low water. Duff heating = very low water. Either you're losing (or have already lost) coolant through a split pipe or other calamity, or you have a very large air bubble in there. So... Check the water levels (as already said, the tank above the engine, not just ...

There are two coolant tanks on Water boxers not sure about diesels. The one behind the flap is the top up tank. Buzzer of doom is a water boxer thing. Diesels are exactly the same - two tanks, and the one behind the number plate is just the one to fool you... And diesels have the buzzer of doom too...

Aha (I think). Just been under/around the van again. Ive got a hold of everything in contact, or even near, each wheel and given it a thorough shaking and there's no movement of anything. Then had it up on the jack (and repeatedly falling off the jack) and checked the front wheel bearings... ....oop...

Ah now we're getting somewhere.... thanks chaps :D CV joint is definitely a possibility - I'll try and have a look this evening. Does it sound like the noise is coming from a wheel arch ? Where does it sound like its coming from.... Bit tricky, I keep changing my mind  First time it did it, I'...

yet another update... Just been and taken the van for a wee drive. It doesnt seem to be the turning after all - I couldnt get it to do it going round corners, but it did do it as I set off from a standstill, just the once :? Felt and sounded like I was dragging the corpse of a tinman underneath the ...
