TSR - Yeah, don't I know it now!
I'm going to get a set of water and ex. pipes from smallcar (maybe a bar set too) to start doing the job properly.
Need to keep some cash back for the bodywork jobs, though. And the poptop. And the fit-out.

Re: Scooby EJ22 idle set up
Not in a tearing hurry as it's not the daily driver (yet) :ok Now have an intermittent misfire under acceleration at about 3.5 - 4k. Must be another air leak! Found missing hose clamp on IACV (sprayed carb cleaner down the inlet) and went for a blast around town. Idle now at 700rpm, but now lumpy. :...

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
Thanks synchrosimon The commission plate reads VW South Africa Pty. etc. so that nails it. I think that the old GL5 lump would have been just as much fun as the scoob, but that's what we've got! Just got to get the aircon up and running superpronto otherwise there's no point finishing the greenhouse...

That 'd be great if you could
I was meaning to track down a copy, but there are two different ones on amazon...both Haynes.
My engine is from the early 90-94 Legacy 1.
Cheers,
Ian

Scooby EJ22 idle set up
Hi All Can anyone tell me (in breif) how to set up the idle on a Legacy1 (90-94) EJ22 motor? Still putting things right and shaking down do make reliable (only had a few weeks) Things like what voltage across which wires on the throttle pot, throttle air gap etc. and common faults to look out for? I...

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
I passed my driving test in this South African microbus in 1987. It had a larger petrol tank without the heating duct cut out. It had green tinted glass all round, she was a bog standard 1.9DG. Bought from a VAG dealer in the UK. Same size windows, and probably not a Uitenhag bus. http://www.youtub...

Re: Does anyone know anything about South African imports?
Thanking you! Windows are identical to Carat apart from the chrome filler strip in the rubber. It's the coolant pipes that have got me going (ignorance) - do all models efi or carb have the water pipes appearing in the OSF corner of the engine bay? Asking because the scoob conversion ones are crrrra...

I appear to have opened a can of (tin) worms here!
Like your ideas though...might have to be an "under the bench" project for the winter!

Re: Air conditioning - electrically driven?
Thanks for the info. 3 hp is not insignificant! There isn't a hookup in the land that would stand that, I suspect. Will (just) reinstate scooby a/c comp with adaptor hoses and chill! Decided on EPAS system in the column instead of electro-hydraulic mongrel. 70amp Hitachi alternator will put out all ...

Re: Air conditioning - electrically driven?
Surely electric is more efficient if the alternator is spinning anyway and has excess amperage capacity once the batteries are charged? High-efficiency 12v dc motor? I was hoping to have the option of running the a/c when on hookup... Should get the kw meter spinning :ok A lot of #ahem# modern cars ...

C'mon boys and girls,
there must be some info about VW South Africa built 25's and their peculiar differences.
Do tell!

Air conditioning - electrically driven?
Hi All Has anyone altered or installed an aircon compressor to be driven by an electric motor instead of the engine? Should be possible as I have also aquired an electric PAS pump in anticipation of finding a RHD power rack... Would the existing a/c clutch supply be man enough for the job of feeding...

Are you a fan of Bob Hoskin's character in Brazil?!
There I was hoping for a full-on techie reply involving hidden cool air ducts and modified through-flow ventilation...

South Africans, gear changes and keeping cool
Hi All, Getting to know our new bus pretty quickly now and it's throwing up a few oddities...(see below) Twin piston VW Ate calipers, not single sliding. Can I swap these for later/bigger/better on same uprights? Coolant pipes come up in the o/s corner of the engine bay like a carb model, but it was...
