It looks as though it's for the water temp sender at the top and it goes back to the relay. Is this part of the inlet manifold heater system?

Woo hoo! All resolved! Turns out the contact in the 7 pin connector needed cleaning and the 2 other switches were faulty. So put the 3rd new switch in today and all works a treat! I've hooked up the blue and black and with the ignition on there is no light. I've just got another torch!!!! I can now see the blue black wire does not go to the relay but as your description said it goes to the 7 pin connector.

Here's the other part of the loom that comes from the middle of the box and the one in my fingers is what was to the oil sensor.

So as far as I can see... Coming out of the box are 3 sets of cables. The left goes to the number plate lights. The middle splits one part to the water header tank sensor the other to the thermostat housing and top water (temp?) and currently the oilsensor. The right hand side goes to the light clus...

So... The oil pressure switch is currently hooked up to the black wire which is live. When I separated the connection and earthed it there were a few small sparks a little crackle and my heart rate increased a bit! Yes, your looking at the right one thanks. I'll get a pic in the morning but it is the blue one. I've put the old one back in as it wasn't making sense. I'll give that test a go tomorrow but it seems that it's either hitched up to the wrong wire or the oil filter is wrong and it needs one with that ...
