Re: Noise at low revs..
Now I have time to play with it here's some more details for anyone that can help... The noise sounds like a rattle or grinding noise that comes from the back of the engine just near the belt. If you ride in 3rd at around 20-25kpm its the worst (so I guess around 1.5-2k rpm). Any faster in third and...

Re: Noise at low revs..
I would say screetching. There's no getting away from it in 2nd unless the revs are high and it sounds completely normal again. Cheers, snowy.

Noise at low revs..
Wonder if anybody can help me. My vw t3 1.6td has developed an annoying loud noise which occurs at low revs in the lower gears. 2nd seems to be the worst. When you drive off and go straight into second you have normal sound for the very a very short time but then it starts to make a noise as you acc...

Re: problem finding gear
Many thanks Jake, I hadn't seen the wiki page, but I'll take and look and then try changing the gearbox oil. Cheers

problem finding gear
Hi, Hopefully someone can help solve my problem which I've been experiencing lately with our 1.6TD VW T3... Some days the thing just won't go into first gear. Its not a brake fluid issue and there is pressure in the clutch system it just like the gear lever is blocked from getting into first. This i...

Re: oil problem?
Cheers Ewen, I'll try sucking the oil out then. it does sound easier. Whats a wet pressure guage and is it easy/cheap enough for me to buy and fit or should I just get a garage to check. I was thinking that I'll only do this if the warning still goes off when I've taken the oil out - thing is if tha...

Re: oil problem?
Cheers for all the suggestipons guys. This all sounds quite likely to me. I guess the first step is just to drain the sump a bit to get the oil to the correct level and see how it goes (is this just a case of opening a release nut under the sump somewhere?). I'll have to check on what oil because it...

Re: oil problem?
Could you direct me easily to the sender so I can check it? Also is there any other elecrical parts that could be loose that I can easily check? I'm thinking it must be electrical otherwise when the warning comes on it would stay on because the pressure would stay low, also don't see why the pressur...

oil problem?
Hi All, Did a 4h drive in the van today (1.6TD) and the oil warning light came on a few times. The first two times when going round a bend and the last time when pulling off the motorway. All times the warning just lasted a few seconds. The oil is full (in fact a little over full - about 5mm over th...

Re: Timing belt and when to change?
Cheers, I wouldn't mind learning and having a go myself but I don't even have axel stands and the van is just on a narrow road out the front. I'm attempting to fix anything I can get to easily enough and then I'll tackle the rest when I get my own place and a garage! I was planning on just buying th...

Timing belt and when to change?
Hi All, I'm about to take my 1.6TD 1986 for its first full service which is going to set me back 450eur. I also need to have the clutch slave replaced and so I'm prepared for an expensive job. The thing is I know from the history that the timing belt was last changed in 2000 which was 90000km ago. D...
