Are they the same size as 2wd?

I pulled mine out today and it has a 15mm thread, I cant stop the thing leaking all over the drive, it's doing my head in. I can't find any 15mm washers either.

does it have a copper washer ???? if you only have the old one heat up it on a gas stove till cherry red let it cool down and re fit it will seal then!

No James, by the looks of it the one that was on it was a 14mm screwed on to fit, its all misshapen and why it' leaking.
a 14mm washer wont go over the thread and a 16mm washer leaks, have tried both flat and crush 16mm washers.
As well as having oils spots all over the crazy paving, I have used about two ltr's of oil removing and refitting the sump plug.

have you tried PTFE tape? i used it on all the male unions on the oil cooler set up and all was good.

PTFE tape is the way to go,I never leave home without it! Oh and duct tape and gripfill

What engine is it....can a sump plug really be this hard to sort?

It's a diesel.
Someone has bodged a repair by the look of it. Otherwise no, it wouldn't be that hard to sort out.
Normally on a sump plug you have a washer seat that is almost the circumference of the bolt head,where as the seat on my plug is the same size as the thread, and a 15mm thread is not a normal size for a sump plug.

Looks like PTFE is the stopgap fix for the mo, and re tap to 16mm later if there's enough meat in the casing.
I don't know where they got this plug from, as I cant find a 15mm thread width on Google or Ebay.

this thread is useless without photos of both ends of the sump and the offending leaking sump plug

The PTFE tape has limited it to a seep so at least its not dripping like mad.

Will wat for these new size washers before I drain it again, the neighbours must think I'm crazy.
Heres a pic of the plug, sump only has front drain plug no rear.

Rob if it's as per your diagram it looks like it should have an O-ring in that recess ?
