If its not your tank, under the wheel arches (both sides) are the breather bottles, if the seats have been changed its more than likely someone has drilled through them as they are just under the rear of the seat runners. They are easy to get out, just one bolt. You can repair them with araldite.
Cheers

There is only one per bottle, if i remember its near the rear of the wheel arch. If you stick your head in there and have a look you will find it. After removing the bolt you unhook the bottle of the bodywork. No need to remove the pipes. Its a fairly easy job.

It's more than likely the breather pipes/hoses, they are renowned for rotting and coming out of the grommets in the tank. Air cooled/watercooled they all rot out on the top .... have you ever filled it to the top ?

hi well ive filled it close to the top and the smell is worse and kind of gets worse when i go over uneven ground so im guesing its all slushing around and causing gasses to be forced out there are know signs of petrol though i know it evaporates quick but ive pulled over quick after smelling it srong and had a good look and found no leaks , ?? im hoping it is the breather bottles as i think breather pipes are going to be hard to get to on the tank

What's the inline petrol filter like ? Is it full of sandy particles ? Sounds like it may have 1 or several of the grommets out on the top of the tank.

If the smell is only while the van is running, and it's an injected engine, then it could well be the fuel return piping leaking - there's a lot more petrol pumped around than used, and the spare is sent back to the tank. Some carb engines also have return pipes - dunno about T25, though.
Expansion bottles/pipework are more likely if the smell's only when filling up or when freshly filled, aren't they?

No mate ... £20 of petrol slopping round and 3/4 of a tank of lpg. I'll fill up with gas when I need it and petrol before Switzerland in August.

never rule out rust on a tank..this is what mine looked like

I should check your breather pipes..front wheel arches feel around the top of the breather tanks..
Try a different part of the forum..mechanical, other matters etc and Wiki...someone will comment on this post being asked on the wrong section...
Good luck with your findings..

hi to everyone that helped me ive done it

there was 2 holes in both breather bottles, who ever had the van before had tryed to fitted 2 wooded covers for the battery behind the seats and screewed into the breather bottles very carless ! . so the fix was remove the bottles clean the area and stick to pieses of plastic over the holes with alerdite refit and all smell has gone ,so thank you
