Can anyone help identify a small 3 pin electrical socket on my recently aquired 1990 T25 DG 1.9.
Socket is mounted on a bracket on the alternator and its wire runs across the top of the crankcase and then .terminates behind the carb/inlet manifold near the flywheel. The socket is wrapped in insulation tape and doesnt appear to be used. Cannot see anything mentioned in Haynes manual about it. Thanks for any advice

Gets asked a lot and has nothing to do with the running of the engine. Don't worry about it.

Ive had 2 vans with 1.9 petrol engins , both had it and wasnt connected to anything.
Description on vagcat = "relay - tdc marker" , so presume its for dealers or factory to set ignition timing or something ????

Yup, ignition timing aid, for 'back in the day' when VW service engineer could plug it into his expensive machine and watch the pretty lights!
Ignore it (some say cut it off!) and us ethe pulley timing marks in the 'old fashioned way'!
