Metal pipe from engine block to thermostat housing O ring

I've just put in a S/H thermostat housing and coolant is leaking from the metal pipe that leads from the engine block to the housing. So I assume I need a new 'O' ring. Does anyone know where I get one from?

Did you clean out where the o ring seats? and smear a little sealant on it before installing?

If the O ring is very flat and distorted then a new one is needed.. they were only available in gasket kits, but I seem to think Brickwerks had them available..
Worth checking the usual suspects too..

I may have a new one available, but i cant look for another 2 weeks now...

Will clean it again. What sealant do you use; I have some RTV instant gasket. Have ordered parts from Brikwerks, thanks. Looking at my old seal it looks like a flat rubber band so maybe it did need changing!

Sometimes worth keeping a roll of plumbers tape ( PTFE (Teflon)) in the toobox.
Can seal an annoying leak in an emergency - just be careful not to let too much fluff off into the internals.
Can do water, fuel and oil probs including oozing sump plug coz not much torque needed to seal.

VW dealers sell them for a few pence. part N0282252

A bit of gasket sealant too perhaps?

^ Is the right answer. PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene) tape is for sealing threads.

There's an even cheaper option...

When I was replacing that pipe, I stopped by a local plumbers merchant with the pipe under my arm, and asked if they had a hot-water-friendly O-ring to suit. They did - and gave me a handful free of charge.

Right; new seal, sealant gasket and PTFE tape should do it.
