Another mystery is what looks like a filler tube with a cap aon, at the very back of the van, mounted on the passenger side. What is this for?

this may well be the water filler, does the cap require a key to open it?

Re the door problem.........I think you mean when the dooor is fully open and the latch hooks into the lock to prevent it from sliding back.........is so the all you need to do is to turn the door handle on, on the inside of the sliding door, clock wise. This unhooks the latch, took me ages to work that out too.

I think the filler your referring to is for the rear washer.

The swivel seats have a catch under the front of the seat ot release them.

I'll be on my way to my favourite mechanics this afternoon for a quick lesson in both!!

Tks

If you are now the proud owner of a 1989 TD Westy then learning a bit about diesel engines will stand you in good stead. However, since your TD is water cooled you don't need to learn about air cooled engines. :)

 Well you learn something new everyday, had my van about 5 years and never knew there was a child lock on the slider  I just thought it was the way it was designed that I had to use the outside door handle to shut it!  Welcome to the club, keep asking the questions I might find something else out :D
