Welding SS exhaust to existing manifold?

I haver ordered a Speedshop SS exhaust but it looks pretty doubtful that the existing bolts/studs holding the manifold are going to come out without shearing. I looked at some past posts and saw that it is possible to cut the existing manifold and weld the new SS exhaust to the stubs. It seems a shame to chop a new system but it would overcome the need to drop the engine and drill any sheared studs/nuts. Has anyone done this and is it recommended?

I take it you're talking about the head bolts here rather than just the silencer?

If your old exhaust is in good enough nick to weld to then I doubt it would need changing for starters, also imagine how difficult welding the new one onto the old will be in situ!

Dropping the engine is not that big a deal in any case.

Your right Shepster, I am being a pussy, if the engine needs to be dropped then so be it and do the job properely.
