RHD 16" Doka

First off - what can I say, two 'finds' hit the club in 48hours. Loving that.

Well here it is. 1993 RHD 16" Doka complete with NATO canopy. Took a few months to get sorted but finally collected and drove 250miles home on monday. Sold into the country by the Busman I bought it of an enthusiast that has moved on to other things and has sold off his collection (CJ's 16" green sika and the SA microbus on ebay last year - we had a thread about them on here I think)

Anyway - I bought some Syncro brochures (anorak) off ebay months ago and rang the seller to sort out postage and it turned out to be CJ. He gave me the heads up. :ok Previous owner bought it in 2006, had it T&T'd till 2009 then used it around his fields. In the time he has had it it covered 1000miles. Syncrospares looked after it in that time. The canopy was also bought from Mike Busman at the same time.

As you can see the van has some rash which has started to be attended to , hence bumper and arches are removed (but present) overall very solid and original - there are some bed issues and the members above the locker doors are not in great shape. Interior is good, 6 seater in brown velour! The van is along way from perfect as it was well used by the main owner in Germany who if I have translated right off the original paperwork worked in the wood/forest industry. JX with 190K Kilometers on clock.

Original Fahrezeugbrief is present along with a rake of TUV's and receipts, 2 sets of doka gates , a set of Merc 15" alloys with brand new muds and a few boxes of mostly NOS bits and bobs.

As far as the history goes the backstory is it was ordered by a buyer in the UK from German dealer, that fell through and the car sat on the forecourt until someone eventually bought it -18th Aug 1994 (E D I T) (built Feb 1993) that buyer kept it for most of its german life. The speedo is in Kilometers. The previous owner added the tristar rear windows and front lock. Both front and back locks are working - no experience re. VC condition as dont have one in panel van, yet. :D I have the original german owners phone number so I may find out some more. Anyway its taxed till the summer so will be bringing to Shipston at least. :D

Oh - did I mention the numberplate?

Nice one Jes! What a find... Loving the UK reg, must be one of the most appropriate syncro ones ever :ok

P.S. I have met the chap who drove the Surrey Legend (rust in peace) when it was brand new. It was a demonstrator and did the rounds at VW Commercial dealerships for a short while. He might know something about this one, I'll make enquiries.

It's an excuse to drop in at my local tame VW garage

Mike Plompen told me about this DoKa while we were at Syncro25 but he said he had sold it into Ireland ...... I wonder if this is the same one he spoke of?

Or is there another ...........?

IIRC - I heard talk from the man that knows that there was a 'batch' of 4. All white. Love to know more. One apparently evaporated in scotland??

Going to trundle up to shipston in the Doka. I was thinking ... Is there anything I need to check to make sure I don't do terminal injury re. Wading?

Would like to avoid anymore schoolboy errors. Obviously I don't know if there will be a wading scenario and I could always dip out of it if there is but not sure which would be worse - damaging the engine or putting up with Nick deriding me over the CB airways for being lightweight

Yes i think so as well. Dug that when doing research. Strange vid. I was hoping for a docu style vid and it's 10 mins of mike sitting in the van driving. I guess it was on the 'right' side :?
