Hi Guys,
Need a bit of help.
I have a 1982/3 1.6 NA diesel and its had a 4 speed gearbox but I cant tell which one as the markings have corroded to badly,
All i can make out is possibly 07 at the end but I think thats a casting mark.
Its a LHD German import
Any ideas?
Cheers Chris

what sort of gear selector set up does it have 1 or 2 balls ?
Is the white sticker still under the dash, knee height drivers side ? If so the code will be on that

Hi Aidan,
I was hoping you would come to my rescue
I'm not sure on the sticker front but it has only 1 ball joint on the box itself.
I will look for the sticker as that could be my salvation!
I'm just wanting to work out my rpm at 60 to see if its worth going 5 speed and I also need to now which bell housing gasket to get.
cheers!

ok one ball so it's an 091/1 box, probably a DY, 5.86 final drive, only way to know for sure is to turn over the engine in gear with one wheel in the air and do the maths or if the box is out and bellhousing off then take a look at the edge of the crown wheel where you will find the ratio stamped in 2mm high digits K(maybeG)741
091 301 131 is the gasket for the bellhousing, brickie stocks them

Aidan, thanks again - the sticker was there (makes a change)
Looks like I have a DM gearbox So about 3650 at 60mph.
Anyway one more question a bit off topic do you just fit the bell housing gasket dry?
Cheers.

i fit the gasket dry as the gearbox is standing vertically in the workstand when I do it, I use blue hylomar where I need to place the gasket and have it stay put when mating case parts
