I know a few people that have stayed there, It is suppose to be really good. We turned up on the off chance and couldnt get in but went to another campsite that ended up looking better. The people living under tarps next to the river at Zeeburg put my Mrs right off, but I always think the best way to see a city in peace without worrying if your van is getting robbed is to book onto a campsite or a busy Aire and become familiar with your neighbors so they can tell any potential thieves to rack off.
Oh and there are two ways in if you follow the sat nav, one way is under a really low bridge that you wont get a high top under.

Visit the old part of Ghent and go on a canal ride. It is special and reasonably civilised. Avoid Bruge (spelt Brugge over there) as although it is pretty it is too touristy and overcrowded. No fun in August. Even the shops belong to chains you can find in most UK high streets.
Enjoy

My wife and I stayed in Camping Zeeburg summer before last. It's big, busy and pretty loud - but none too shabby for all that. It's quite youth / backpacker orientated so there's a bar (which had a great band one night) pool tables and all that, as well as bike and kayak hire. And a zoo, strangely enough.
It's an easy bike or bus into Amsterdam.
All round I'd recommend as long as your not looking for the most peaceful relaxing break ever.

Thanks for the views. I am glad the campsite is a little lively. We really don't want to go somewhere completely quiet. The location was a big draw and we have booked a spot a little distance from the tent area. Thanks for the infomation on Ghent, we were looking for a spot in Belgium on the way home, originally aiming for the Ardennes after a visit to Maastricht, but now may wander a little further north in Belgium. Any other interesting spots in Belgium would be greatfully received.

Zeeburg rocks - we've stayed there more times than I can remember, always had a great time. Possibly my favourite campsite ever.
