Hi, 5Speed Manual 1700 Diesel
Van not going anywhere. Clutch Slipping. Oil slick under gearbox in the middle ( bell housing to engine ) driveshafts outputs both bone dry. Reading the wiki seems to point at Crankcase oil seal, but cannot find part with brickworks or Vw heritage or JK.
Anyone got a part number and recommended supplier. Please thankyou
Kev

gearbox input seal, but if its leaking that bad, its quite likely the oil thrower is damaged.. you might want to have a word with Aidan..

Thanks for answering. Going to pull off the gearbox tomorrow and have a good look. I will order the seal, and cross my fingers that the oil thrower is ok.

I don't do the peening as the most important thing is that it is centred afaiac and any distortion of the case may affect that and then it'll only pick up and spin and wear the case and potentially the shaft too, the castellated top edge will ensure it doesn't spin anyway as long as the 2 pack (like JBweld etc) spreads into that, check for perpendicularity with a set square once fitted - there's about a dozen out there I've repaired with 2 pack and no reports of subsequent failure, I'm having a few oil throwers made at the moment and my local cnc shop will be making a batch of them in the summer as I've now raided all the ones from Petrol bellhousings to repair damaged diesel ones that I can as we still need some good petrol bellhousings for the wbx faithful
this is most common failure in diesels that have had a 1.9 diesel lump out of a car fitted by a numpty who didn't fit a spigot bearing to the engine - the cars don't have a spigot bearing because they have a fully supported input shaft in their gearboxes, ours isn't and needs the spigot bearing, spigot bearings are cheap as fish and chips and I'd recommend changing it when you do the clutch for peace of mind and long life

Spigot bearing hopefully turning up today with Mr Post.
Great that you are getting throwers made, could be a market there if you can get them done competitively. I think it must be recommended that if for whatever you are or having your gearbox removed, for a few quid may as well replace the seal and Spigot bearing as you say. Thanks again for chat on phone and very helpful advice.
