sounds daft, but just wondered how you go about paying tolls at the booths in france, if you dont have anyone in the passenger seat? obviously we're on the opposite side of the rd, and as alex will probably be in the back entertaining the kids, just wondered what the protocol was?
Thanks in advance,
kathy

A bit like going through a muc donalds drive through over here in a lhd.I suppose you could always reverse through :) Or just get alex to move to the front when approaching a toll.

You have to get out of your seat. But then, if you're in a high-top, you'd probably have to anyway. Ours tended to get detected as a tall vehicle, and the ticket would emerge from the truck driver level slot that you can't reach from your seat.

A Liber-t box is another option.

And it's also worth considering a fuel card as well.

Better idea - get off the dull autoroutes, and take the nice roads instead...?

Got to agree with that.
It was grey and raining though when I drove through France....a mighty a depressing experience all the same and Spain didn't arrive quick enough!

Would do if we had more time. Have 8 days to get to a wedding in Spain :ok

8 days is long enough to drive to Spain and back three times, surely?

Yep...2 days to the south of Spain with an overnight stop.

I did it without an overnighter though...36 hours to the eastern Costa Del Sol.
Can't stand the taste of Red Bull now, take Pro-Plus or have my coffee black these days!

If you're trying to get to Spain as quickly as possible, it's going to be hard to beat the ferry to Santander or Bilbao - and it'll probably work out cheaper, too.

That can take upto 24 hours itself though....so that's 24 hours plus getting to Portsmouth/Plymouth and then onto their destination in Spain.

Less stressful though for sure and if I had to drive to Spain again I'd definately go this route....if not just to miss France out!

 Very funny. Not when you want to see as much of France as you can along the way.

We are returning via the Bilbao ferry which gives us 7 days after the wedding to potter around the south of france/northern spain

If you want to see as much of France as you can, I would avoid as much of the toll roads as possible. It won't add as much time to your journey as you think and the scenery and small towns you will pass through would be worth the delay in my view.

I would agree normally but it was more the fact we have just 6 days to get to Spain and aren't planning on driving more than 5/6 hours at a time whilst squeezing in as much as we can. We have a wedding to go to so we don't have an open ended timescale.
