went away for the night last night 130 miles drive with no prob. this morning started the van for return journey ok drove a mile and stopped at traffic lights .the tickover was lumpy and exhaust fumes looked rich( black ) engine cut out but started again straight away then cut out and would not start.
i checked carb which was swimming in fuel and left it alone for 15 mins by which time it started and ran home with no probs stopping twice on route.

i think auto choke had stuck .anyone have any ideas ? i think this is is a warning of things to come :?

Perhaps sticking float chamber needle valve ?

If auto choke = easy to check, if it happens again, take air filter box off top of carb and look to see the the butterfly valves at the top of each choke barrel are open (correct when engine warm) or closed (only correct when engine is cold).

Certainly nothing serious or expensive Mike :)

Mind you, and seriously, I take it you have fire extinguisher on board !
It's not unheard of for a wet carb to catch fire
