hi there all can anyone recommend a leisure battery that will fit behind a passenger swivel seat. i have just fitted a swivel base to the seat and i knew it would not clear the battery we have at the moment but it looks like a battery about 170 - 175mm high to the terminals should work. can anyone give any advice. much appreciated.

This has been covered many times use the search function in the top right corner and also check the details in the WIKI link in the light grey area above ^^ :ok

Most people use starter batteries as auxillary batteries

Battery code 100 is the correct height and terminal orientation. These tend to be 70 -72ah with 630 - 700CCA so about as powerful as you are going to get withought going to expensive spiral cell batteries etc.
Enter the special battery code when buying and get 15% off the price so around £62.00 delivered

Thanks for that. Do you find the starter battery ok for running your lights and pump etc? I was under the impression a starter battery would drain very quickly and have a short life span.

cheers

Your leisure battery would normally do that work, only to save the starter battery for its own work.

As California Dreamin' says, the 100 type should fit, as its max height is no more than 175mm [I found this out the hard way  ]

Here's the spec of the starter battery that I bought, to give you an idea of size that will fit:

Dimensions

12v 72Ah 680CCA

Length (mm) - 278

Width (mm) - 175

Total Height (mm) - 175

Weight (Kg) - 16.6

Terminal Type - Standard Post (A)

Terminal Layout - RH+

Suitable for

Cars & Vans

Please check dimensions against existing battery or by the tray it fits into.

Warranty

4 YEARS

Description

The Varta Blue Battery is built to exceed specifications, provides brilliant safety features, consistency and provides greater starting.

I think he meant some folks use a starter battery as a leisure battery. It will work fine and won't drain quicker than a real leisure battery, HOWEVER each time you let it go below about 11.5 volts flat, it will take loads off it's life span. Most leisure batteries can take being run flat(ish) without this damage.

I use a starter battery but also have a little box (£20) that cuts the battery off when it drops below a user set voltage.
Mind you, mine is mounted under the bed and is 120 Amp Hour. I keep my tool kit in the space behind the passenger seat. Makes it easy to get at ;)
