anyone here changed the rear carpet headlining??

I need to change our rear carpeted headlining on our poptop as its filthy and stained and nothing Im trying gets it clean and just makes the material fall apart!
firstly - has anyone done it? is it a bugga of a job??!! Im thinking its got to be fairly straightforward as you take off the old stuff and use that as a template - but knowing my van - its not ever gonna be that easy! it will probably dissintergrate in my hands!!!
also - Ive been looking at Megavanmats as they seem to be by far the best price wise - but does anyone know where I could get a cream colour from?

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated as always!!
Ta!
Diane :ok

Hi Diane,

I think Megavan mats would be your best bet, these people are also popular. http://harrisonstrimsupplies.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I don't know if cutting templates is the way to go as the carpet is stretchy, the idea being to stretch it round corners, wheel arches etc.

If you mean the suspended headlining that's over the bed area, then I've done it on my van and I used lining carpet from 'Toeragstruckmats' what a name  via eBay. Not too difficult to do, though you need to use a sewing machine to make the loop that holds the suspension road.

Here's a link to the work done, scroll down the page to see it: https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.p ... 0&start=60

I used Megavanmats for carpet lining for panels and they were fine. Their Megafix spray adhesive does what it says on the tin as well (unlike some adhesives which appear to lack that all important quality of being able to stick things together).

Hi all, Thank you for the replies.
I have used the megavanmats lining and glue before - but the colour is darker than I was looking for which is why I asked if anyone knew of it in a cream or light beige - Ive got the barley and its still a little 'dirtier' against the cream of my interior.

Thanks Doug for the link - I didnt know that was how it was suspended!! To be honest I just thought it was solid all the way along.
Do you have any pics of the finished job with the area above the kitchen area?? and would you be able to pm me with a discription of how its laid out? i.e where the solid bits are and where the 'rod' is you refer to???
Im ok with a sewing machine - did my own curtains so not so bad!!

Thanks again all of you - the lining is the thing that lets the van down inside so I really want to get it done.
:ok

I'll take some pictures of it this weekend and PM you all the other stuff.

BTW, I did look at Megavanmats stuff, but the firm I used in the end were some 30 quid cheaper [I recovered the entire inside of the van, in 3 colours; silver for the roof, mid graphite for the middle and dark graphite for the lower areas] And because it was a fair size order, they sent extra cans of spray glue too, which was a bonus as I then used that for doing the insulation work.

You are welcome to come and see it if you need too :)

Cheers,

Doug.

Actually, I've just checked and although I got the adhesive from Megavanmats, I got the carpet lining from http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5m-x-2m-Ribbe ... 144wt_1185 . This is also a little darker than the "grubby" cream in my Autohomes but panel by panel, I've been replacing the lot.

I'm currently relining my camper, and used Harrison via ebay, the material is very easy to work with. Order the 'wheat' colour. Bought 8 metres square, which came with 8 cans of spray adhesive. Recommended.

I used megavanmats . Prompt delivery (useful for a dickhead like me who underorders consistently and glues whole swathes with the wrong side out.) great stuff to use and no issues except my own lack of talent. The glue is amazing, other stuff I've tried just doesn't compare.

I recently recovered the inside of my pop top with the megavanmats carpet, it was fairly easy as the roof was on the floor, would prob mean some masking up in done on the van. I used the stretch version of the beige carpet, ordered the non stretch the first time by mistake and it cost a fortune to return! The stretch is a doddle to work with and their glue is spot on.
