sounds to me , from you description you have more than one problem...........

if the top up bottle wet your trainer, it was full.

if the red flashy "thing" was flashing it meant low water level or over temp.

if the header tank was full, then the sender of the wiring is at fault if the temp wasnt over high.....

i have a top up bottle top here, if you pm me your address i'll get it in the post for you........

I agree with Moki - if the light was flashing and it wasn't over hot, then it meant the other tank over to the left (header tank) was low on water. BUT if the right hand one (top up tank) was full of water there is summat not right as it is supposed to supply water to the left hand tank when that needs it (by suction by the way) - a bit confusing to put into words !!

Oh and remember the top up tank isn't pressurised and, as a very temporary measure, and as long as the header tank has the right amount of water in it, you could drive around all day with no top up tank at all. ( I reckon  )

in desperation yes, but it will mean the header tank cant suck anymore back after it has cooled, so you would need to constantly refill the header tank............
you can however get away with having a temp lid on the top up tank, even if you had no lid, it would be half full, which is the cold fill level......

yeah ducks i agree with all of you,it might have simply been a case of ive got an unbelieveably small leak on ane of my front to back water pipes which is too small to worry about.but it might have just needed a quick bleed up maybe but when the top up bottle bost i didnt want to risk anything as she goes away in it(hopefully in a fortnight!)but i noticed a monsterous crack across the face of the bottle and when i poked it with me finger i managed to shove me pinky straight through it!!!(heavy handed b*****d!!!!)mocki has the offending article which i will hopefully be dealing on so with another bottle fitted and a good bleed up it should be hunky dory and okey dokey artichokey........................
