Our new Leisure drive hightop

Hi all :)

Our LPG'd tin top (8 years with us) is STILL away having a VERY major restoration (6 months it's been there, but not too bothered as have 2 x Scirocco's as well and it HAS been Winter !).

The wife and I started thinking we perhaps should have just sold it and got a posher one with a Hi-Top for storage :? So we started looking around, over the last couple of months we came close to buying one or two, but didn't, now we have !

It is a DG powered Leisure drive high-top that we are told was built as a Camper, not converted later (not sure what difference that makes...)

Here are some pics =

It is the one I was uncertain about the white vinyl interior =

But I figure we can stick some of the flexible carpet to it as per =

The van is on it's way to us from Crewe as I type, can't wait to move all our stuff in and "make it ours", check the radio, fit the CB, etc etc.

Any comments on the good points / bad points of a Hi-Top Leisure Drive appreciated folks :)

Congratulations!!! - The vinyl isn't too bad.... it is something you can always live with for now and change in time.

ENJOY :ok

Nice van that :)

We have a leisure drive hi top as well, different shaped roof on ours and not as tidy as yours, but we love it.

Ours has carpeted panels, but I want to swap them for vinyl, easier to clean!

We should meet up at an 80-90 camp-over and do a swap then

Typically we were in Chester last week, my wifes family live in the Wrexham area.

Looks good, My hightop roof is off a leisure drive(an earlier one with smaller windows)...Your upper bed arrangement looks identical to mine. The only snag I have though easily fixed ,is that there is nothing to lock the bed in place and it has a tendency to move forward when driving( especially if anything is stored up there)...

Cheers for the comments folks :ok

@ Mark, Aye that is the kind of stuff I need to know :) That space wont be used for a bed, but will sometimes have a range of model aircraft up there (when going to competitions and shows).

Of course it will be getting LPG'd very soon and a propex fitted too :)

The difference is that it's never been anything other than a camper. My previous 1986 van was a Leisuredrive conversion but it wasn't converted until 1990 having been a small family builders van before that and worked for a living.

Cracking cooker in that conversion and if the bed is anything like the one in mine it's proper comfy. :ok

Never had my hightop bed sliding forward when I was driving though, but if its a problem just fit a sliding bolt either side like my Autohomes one

We have a "minty" set of genuine Caravelle alloys to go on it too :ok (and those wheels & tires can go on the Tin-Top soon for sale, we will be sad to see our "Colin" go, but our loss will be someone else's gain :) )

Seller just rang and said he would be here within the hour :D

That's a very nice looking van.

I could live with the vinyl too, much easier to clean, though probably a bit cold to the touch on a cold night.

I'll take the Carat alloys if you change your mind

Doug.

Very nice van indeed :ok

You might find that you like the wipe cleanable aspect of the vinyl once you have had it for a little while.
