Fit those relays fella - you'll come out of the dark ages and be able to spot timid field mice at 500 yards. Well worth it.

It really is dead easy, but do have a go with the search facility on here because it has been covered loads of times, including recently. The hardest bit is (safely) getting a bit of fused 20 Amp(ish) wire from the battery to behind the headlights. The rest is just a couple of bits of wire and a relay.
Off now to find my crude but effective diagram of "how to wire it up"...

I know it's just a hand made drawing but it should help you understand, it's only a relay triggered from what was the wire that went to your headlights and fed by a nice thick power cable from your battery = no volts drop through all those thin wires and switches etc.

A bit simpler than my twin headlamp effort lol....
I'm guessing jeffdubs has a Round headlamp setup (two lamps) so the 20amp wire is probably good enough (but bare in mind you are trying to minimize voltage drop over long runs of wire) personally I would go for 3.0mm
2 27.5amp....not that thick really.
Fourth one down:

2 X 60watts = 120watts.....watts divided by volts equals amps so 10 amps continuos current flow on round twin lamps (NOTE* 20 amps on full beam with a 4 headlamp setup) so John's recommendation of 20 amp wire would fall short on a four lamp setup.
