Rubber boots freshly split on both Track Rod ends, is there a way of obtaining and replacing these boots? ....i have done replacement boots on tractor track rods before ........as putting in new cheap spurious track rod ends is a serious waste of time....... as they are made from chineese chocolate.

Anyone know what size the bolt is as http://www.balljointboots.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; sells two sizes of boot :D

Track rod end boots, on their own, I've yet to come across. In the old days you could source them but in this era of 'units', things tend to come complete or not at all. A waste of resources certainly and even infuriating but thats the way it is.

Good find indeed!
Do I recall reading that the new MOT rules are now considering any damage to these boots as a fail? If so that site will be worth its weight in gold.

Yep, any splits are a fail. Although if I find any on mine I'll just replace the whole unit this time around as I really need to get under there and start fitting new - much of it has been there since it was built. :D

Replaced both Boots, £3 for both, 20 minutes each, used the 'Boot 1' from http://www.balljointboots.co.uk/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; as T25 Track Rod ends are the same as Mk1 Golf.
The replacment boots are designed so that they dont need top and bottom retaining spring/wire the but they do have the groove if one insists on putting on these. Plenty of new grease/use copper hammer to seperate ball joint.
