No power in the old man

Hi all,
Has anyone ideas as to why my T25 '81' Aircooled Van has problems getting up hills? I also have problems whilst accelerating through the gears, especially from 3rd to 4th. I can feel the engine 'holding back' and going up hills can mean doing only 30mph on a motorway! Top speed is 50mph. It appears that doing this speed on a long journey will mean me feeling the engine 'hesitate' or 'judder' whilst on the move. The vans had new plugs, distributor cap, clean leads, rotor arm,air filter, oil leak fixed, new silencer and tail pipe, timing done. The carbs will be looked at soon - maybe this is the problem? The engine is worn and perhaps a recon is needed? Can anyone help?

Dave

i would try replacing the inline fuel filter located under the van near the petrol tank. my 1980 a/c improved loads when i did mine.

^ yep

Plus new fuel lines and vacum pipes? (actually, I'm unsure AC engines have them). Also, try a bottle of 'redx' next time you fuel up.

Compression check. You won't know much unless you've done that. If its poor, that may be all you'll get from your old man and it'll just get worse. Viagra?
