Hi got a bit of a problem my T25 1.9d 1y with a 1.6d cs gearbox i've done a full rebuild on the engine. Went to go for an mot first time in it took it slow but found out i was in 4th at 55mph and the engine seam to be reving high looks like i need a 5 speed box or bigger wheels has any1 else had this problem may. still had more power but did not want to stress the engine with my new bearings and pistons.

I have a 5 speed box with my 1y but didn't get much more speed just more pulling power.

I think most 1.6 diesels had a very low ratio diff.
A 1.9 should be able to pull higher gearing, less revs & more mph.
Identify what box is actually fitted it may not be original anyway.
Have a look at this thread

It gives advice on identifying gearboxes and link to gearbox codes on the Brickyard, so you know what ratios a box has in it.

usual problem 1.6d box is very low geared , various different ratios , some may be too high for your set up and type of van or driving you do
1.9 engine conversion dosent make your van go faster , although it will accelerate better.
in an ideal world you need a rebuilt gearbox.- upgrade the box as previously stated but it will fail so add a rebuild.
