Hi, I've just bought a T25 1988 Transporter and have got a pre made rock and roll bed but don't know how to fit it. Can anyone help me with some tips please? Thanks. X

Depends what type. Pics would help but don't use flimsy L brackets and self-tappers. Mine (metal) is bolted partly through floor and partly through bulkhead with spreader plates but if yours is MDF or chipboard you'll need to think in terms of whether or not a strong bloke could pull it out with his bare hands - if he can, its not secured properly.

Our steel Bluebird RnR is fastened in the same way.
Remember it's not just a bed if you have kids in the back and the seat falling to pieces in the event of an unpleasantness could have very serious consequences for anyone sat there (especially if they were wearing a lap belt).

Ian is right. My original MDF one parted company with the back after I loaded the area above the engine with camping gear and it had been fitted exactly as suggested. Fortunately I had no passengers but it was that experience that prompted me to make my own and go over the top on fixing points with the steel one. In my view seat fixings should exceed seat belt mountings.

Thank you for the replies. Bit worried now as the one i've bought is mdf. Do you suggest i reinforce it or do away with completely and get a metal one?

No, MDF can be fine but its better to use bolts and big washers rather than self-tapping screws and L brackets.

Thank you, will definitely do that.

Theras a chunk I wrote ages ago abot fitting a self-build steel one. It was welded although could be bolted together I suppose. The principles in terms of fixings are similar to wooden ones though. I added it to the WIKI as a base guide for those that need advice on strength, fittings etc. Its not a blueprint although any welder could follow the basic design I came up with and adapt to suit I'm sure.
If you add bolts to bulkhead, take a gander under rear wheel arch to get some idea where holes will end up. Only needs a drill, a few bolts, big washers and strong brackets. Mine was ful width as I prefer plenty of room on the back but 3/4 ones are similar.
