Good day, I’ve a big weekend coming up on our bus. (early panel van converted to autohomes, much – much later). She’s been gutted, stripped and resprayed and while the dash is still out its time for me to get the electrics sorted.

I am adding a heated rear window, a rear wiper and washer bottle (appreciate there are mixed feelings on these), upgrading the existing windscreen wipers to intermittent (have the requisite stalk and a #99 relay) as well as electric windows and a parking sensors to keep the big bumpers fresh as long as possible.
Given that I have an early bus without the clip-in relay area I assume that I will have to tape them up where I can find space. In order to power all this I am planning to wire up an auxiliary fuse box and draw the power direct from the battery with a relay on the ignition switch.

I have done some research and have the wikis where available but before I get stuck into all this on Saturday, and being that electrics aren’t my forte, has anyone got any suggestions/recommendations?

Just wondering... for the rear wiper. While I have the stalk already - will the connection box and loom have wires in place (to a point) for this or will I have to insert new connectors and wire up to the relay being that this is an early van? any thoughts (or diagrams) appreciated.

Hi, did the same on my early bus.

unfortunatly none of the wiring is there, you have to put it all in new.

I put my intermittent relay with all the other relays near the fuses, I traced the wires from the steering column and labelled them before attaching the relay and connectors on the relay board.

Thanks for that guys. Seems my expectations for the weekends work were excessive to say the least... Electric windows and parking sensors are now in and running.
I managed to get the headlight mod rigged up with 2*relays and 30amp cable which should be all the power needed. My only issue is that when I try the flash on the left stalk the relay sometimes doesn’t react in time and the lights don’t flash. I was thinking of running a main beam wire direct to the new circuit just to cover the demand before the relay kicks in, not sure if that would work (imagine it would defeat the object of the mod for a split second).

I added the missing wires to the wiper connector and tried the electrical tester on them whilst moving the stalk around. I couldn’t get any power through them – I assume I should be? I haven’t driven a T25 with rear wipers. Which position should the stalk be in. Is the rear washer the push down option?

All the cables for the wipers and washer have been run into the fuse box so I will mount all the relays there which should be easy to do while the dash is out. I have bought a #72 relay for the wiper/washer but can’t find a wiring diagram for it, I don’t suppose anyone has one?

Wires are also in for the heated rear window – I don’t fancy wiring it to the switch directly and would prefer through a relay. Does anyone know which number relay I should be looking for and, again, a wiring diagram would be a great help.

ok, i have answers now to most of the above. only remaining issue is the wiring of the rear wiper.

It is.But tbh.Mine has factory fitted rear wash/wipe.And i never use it.I doubt many do.

Hi Nij, sorry that wasn’t clear. I have replaced the (early) wiper/indicator assembly on the steering column with one from a breakers that apparently suits a rear wiper. It has a push back/down feature on the washer stalk that the original one didn’t have - is this for the rear wiper or washer or both?

I am having to rewire the washer connector at the bottom of this assembly as the original loom didn’t have all the cables. All the new wires are now in place but when i move the wiper stalk around and put the electrical connector on them I am not getting any juice. Would dearly like to know what each pin on this connector was for..

Right, I now have the intermittent wiper relay installed and working well.

Push down on the stalk activates the rear wiper and the washer. However... when it is pushed down i get a very long blast (same duration as the cycle of the rear wiper) of water from the washer. Ideally i would just like a short blast when the stalk is pushed but seems i have wired this up with power coming back to the washer from the wiper.

Heated rear window switch is wired direct. No need for relay/timer

Good luck sorting it but I agree with Rob, rear wash wipe is a superfluous accessory aimed far more at sales rooms than actual practical use. I sealed mine up long ago and never missed it. By the time rear screen is dirty, the whole van needs a wash and the only time I've actually needed to wipe it is on those early mornings when the dew has settled but I have to do ALL windows then anyway.

hi richard did you every finish doing the rear wiper??? cause ive got all the components now ??? i hope you can help what size hole for the wiper motor??? 16mm
on own or 20mm with rubber grommet??? wiring all done just stuck on hole sizes??? cheers simon
