Stalling and Distributor issue and how to clean spark leads

Hi.

I've had a continuing issue with my van regarding it cuts out when I slow down or need to slam the breaks on. I have to do this really slowly and watch I don't cut out completely. It is a nuisance if it cuts out all the time at junctions or lights.

Any ho, I have had the carb replaced and resealed which helped for a while, then my alternator belt snapped - now replaced and the stalling problem has started again. I thought it might be something to do with the build up of 'green' on my spark leads connections. Scraped some of it off and it seemed to help.
What is the best substance to clean this off -WD40?

Do you think I need to replace the sparks and leads, rotor and cap every year?
I think the cutting out issue lies here somewhere so looking at a Accuspark distributor kit

Any ideas on this and the cleaning?
Thanks

it really sounds like a vac prob, if its is directly connected to you putting your foot on the brake.

the brake servo maybe at fault, or the "one way valve" just engine side of the baulkhead.

as for green leads, thats a result of damp and or salt.
no point trying to clean them, it wont go away once its there

The green? It's corrosion.

And, yes, replacing ignition system components every year or two is cheap maintenance.
