I am going to fit a new GSF tank and have would like advice on coating it against rust. Can anyone recommend a product: Waxoyl, Hammerite, Rustoleum etc - does it matter which one I use. Iv read the archive files that suggest the tank is likely to be free of stone chips, I have some waxoyl left in a spray can and the tank iv removed appears to have waxoyl on it. I guess you protect the top before you fit the tank, and then project the underside when completed and fitted.

Also upon removal of the tank I found the breather pipe that bridges from left to right was secured to the van and goes up and over the gear link and various water pipes. Is this normal? Any advice on refitting as I cannot get the pipes to reach the grommets and get the tank low enough to get my arm in to connect them.

If you haven't actually purchased the tank then follow this advice:
The Kolkkerhoklm tanks are rubbish, the black coloured ones, they don't fit and the holes are in the wrong place..you need to be looking for a retailer who sells JesseLai.
I purchased mine from Euro Car Parts a year or so back and I was lucky as it turned out to be this prefered make. Brickwerks also supply and recommend this brand.
Apart from the Kolkkerhoklm tanks not fitting very well there have been several threads on here relating to none running or poor running vans traced back to this brand of tank.

....OK....now thats out the way.....smooth Hammerite then some sort of underbody rubberised protective coating.
Yes the link pipe is normal and so is the way it is connected under the tunnel...basically a pain in the backside to connect.

you can get the fittings into the grommets when tank is up. reach in over the chassis rails through/over front wheel and do it by Braille!!
