Help with jx pump timing.

So I've managed to borrow a dti set and want to check the pump timing on my jx, My question is......Can any one shed any light on doing this, tip or tricks etc.
I'm not touching the cambelt at this time, So does the exhaust still need to come off? Can the pump timing be done with the engine cold?
Also I'm doing this on my karmann cheetah so most of the work will be done from inside the coachbuilt, will this pose any issues?
Any help appreciated guys....Glen.

A copy of my response on the Brickyard.
It is straight forward.
My tips.

Make sure that you can get the exhaust end can off, mine, a slide in type, was seized to the down pipe. I undid the clamp sprayed it with penetrating oil and drove around for a couple of days before it loosened up.

Once the end can is off undo the three bolts that secure the toothed pulley to the end of the crank.
These allen key screws round off as soon as you look at them, I had to whack a suitably size torx bit in to get two of them out.

After those two niggles everything went swimmingly.

Just wondering why you are taking the exhaust off? I did not remove mine to adjust the pump.
