Wiring Block under Dash (Steering wheel side)

Hi, I would like to say thanks for all the great info on this forum so far. (I'm hoping to gain my Haynes one spanner badge soon)

I am in the process of replacing the heater/blower motor & have the dash out. I thought I had carefully photographed everything as I went along.

However, when checking earths I came across a broken one which traced back to this connector block. I also found the red wire somewhat lacking in purpose.

The two blue wires from this block go to the the little light that sits behind the heater control knobs & to the wiring loom. that run along the dash. (the little light does not work, could be the bulb)

I rigged up the display panel & switches etc - thinking I would find where this little white block came from - however everything seemed to work & I cannot see where this block would fit.

All the lights etc seemed to work (except for the little one behind the heater control knobs) - Also the new motor works great, along with the new 3 speed blower switch/knob thing.

I'm thinking this unknown white block may be a connector for an optional extra I don't have - OR - the engine will fall out the next time I drive the van.

Can anyone identify the block?

Many Thanks

Semi-educated guess says that's the original plug for the stereo

Another guess I'm afraid but it looks like one of the ones that connects to the back of the speedo binnacle.

Had a quick look in the electrical schematics in the Haynes manual and it looks like your mystery connector could be the T4 connector (which Haynes has identified as being used by the Radio - although obviously if you have any sort of more modern radio it may have been wired in using alternative wiring).
If it is T4, (which is identified as being a 4-pin connector), then I can only see that 3 of the 4 pins are used and they are identified in Haynes as;
Pin (a) should have 2 grey/blue wires attached - one goes to the heater blower switch light (as you mentioned), the other goes to the cigarette lighter light
Pin (b) should have 2 red wires attached - one goes to another 2-pin connector under the dash (T2c), the other goes to the passenger side reading lamp
Pin (c) should have 2 brown wires attached - one goes to the passenger side reading lamp, the other goes to the cigarette lighter (earth)

If it is this connector, then the red wires should have constant 12v on them so if they are hanging loose you might want to make sure that they are wrapped well to prevent an electrical short!!

Hi , thanks for all the answers.

I think the prizes go to MidLifeCrisis & Globbits.

I had a feeling the wiring the block is for 'extras' I don't have.

Heater blower switch light - have one of them but not working.
No cigarette lighter - I fitted one myself for the sat-nav off the leisure battery.
No passenger reading light lamp (I assume the one above the door)

I did consider removing the wires but due to time constraints (didn't fancy separating the whole wiring loom) I have just terminated the loose wire & wrapped the whole thing up.

Good news is I now have a new heater motor & three speed switch. All the dash is back & the windscreen rubber replaced. Fixed up the rust I found & no more wet feet in the morning...

now about that oil leak.......

Cheers
