Hi all,
I need some help with a strange hot running fault on a 1989 2.1 mv. The engine seems to run ok until it gets up to normal running temp, where if it sits at idle for a few seconds or turned off and restarted it will not clear and rev up. However with the blue temp plug off it will clear and run ok but be significantly down on power. According to the bently bible the sender should be at around 300 ohms which it is. I have another identical van which I have swapped the following (1 at a time) but to no avail
Temp sender
Airflow meter
complete distributor
Plugs
crankcase pressure valve
idle stabiliser
ECU
lambda probe
I have also checked the throttle switch settings , power steering switch and cleaned up all engine management earthing points. The ignition timing has been checked as per bentley.
I may be forced to set light to the van if I dont find a solution. :?
Hoping someone else may have had this problem and can advise accordingly.
Regards
Pete 07919 411208.
PS next step is a hot compression test.

Try the blue temp plug off and a jumper wire across the two terminals of the plug, this will then tell the ecu that the engine is in its hot state, if that cures it then it is the blue temp sensor at fault irrespective of your readings or it is a break in the wiring circuit that expands to break when hot.

This could also be classic "vanagon" syndrome, there is an extra lead available that fits between the AFM and the loom to stop this or if you have a poke around there is a diode you can fit to the AFM that stops it too.

Have a scan at this.

Cheers for the help steve.
After checking everything I noticed the fuel pump seemed to be running very warm. After changing this the van runs perfectly  . You live and learn I guess.
Pete.
