Propex motor repair, and thumbs up for good service

Had a great experience today, real old-fashioned good helpful service when I phoned Propex about a faulty motor in my Compact 1600 unit. It had started making a nasty grating sound when starting up.

I already had the unit partly stripped, its a bugger to get the motor out as you have to take apart everything to get to it. I was thinking, 'well, if I have to send the unit for repair why take it to bits'. I decided to call them to see if they even had the part. I was expecting the worst, 'sorry sir the parts no longer available but we can sell you a new unit for $$$'.

The woman who answered knew immediately which part I needed, and that they could send it out for DIY repair. Great ! She also then offered to check if the service department had any old serviceable motors I could have cheaper than the new one which was £75. Super ! She then also mentioned they had a problem with some motors where the magnets came loose. Fantastic ! This sounded like my problem. I thanked her and said I'd call back.

I then completed pulling apart my unit, opened the motor, and indeed one of the magnets had come adrift, and broken into two. This was easily fixed with some Araldite, and after putting it all back together, it starts up and runs as expected !

Yes, the more I hear about the Propex after sales/technical help the more I hold them in high regard. I wouldn't hesitate to contact them if mine developed a problem I couldn't sort.
