I was thinking of getting a new battery as the one I have was bought nearly five years ago. My daughter Jo rang me up for collection yesterday evening. Switched on and a slow turnover and then nothing. Some juice left as headlights worked but not enough to turn the engine over. Darn! I guess the cold weather killed what was a battery on its way out. Or should I try and charge it up? Is it worth it? Any thoughts before I lash out on a new one?

Five years is an exceedingly good innings for a battery. When they lose their get up and go, its temperatures like these that will show them up. Charge it by all mean but chances are it won't hold it for more than a day or so.

Cheers guys. I checked the voltage which was 11.5V. Dead. I bought a Varta replacement 60amp hour to replace it from CPC Batteries in Surbiton (Tolworth roundabout) for those who live in the area and they deliver free of charge within a reasonable distance. It was not cheap but about £20 cheaper than I paid Halfords for an equivalent one over 4 years ago. I have never seen such a collection of different batteries and accessories. Steve who served me knows everything ther is to know about them. Well recommended.
