Carburettors ??

Dear Forum,
I recently had anew Remtec 2.0 CU engine fitted in my camper. The day I collected her the float collapsed in the carb in the open position and flooded my engine with fuel.
Nice AA man took me back to the garage and it was all mended and cleared out and fit to go again.
Now 3 days later she is running very rich and smells very fuelly and I am losing power in 4th, although nowhere near the awful surging and total loss of power I experienced before.
My mechanic is a purist and I am a novice. When I asked if I should upgrade my carbs as per the threads I read on websites such as this and he says he always sticks with the originals where possible as they tend to cause the least problems and I have just been very unlucky.
He is going to have another look at them on Friday.
Wat are your thoughts. I am not necessarily interested in performance enhancement, just reliability and maybe improved efiiciency ?
Many thanks.

there is nothing wrong with the standard solexes if you upjet them and rebuild them , if you fit a pair of webbers or dellortos you will get more of a performance gain but budget for a rolling road session around £100 to set the up correctly as you now have 4 chambers to set up and take into account most 2nd hand carbs will need re jetting with new jets and chokes whats adds to the budget , a cheaper option is a pair of 36/40 solexes of a vw 412 ls if you can find some

Faggie has it right.
Personally speaking, if your looking at new carbs then improve your performance and mpg, don't put the same on.
You can liberate the power your AC engine is capable of, for the sake of some Delortos and a rolling road set up.
The change will put a grin on your face that will appear every time you drive it.... guaranteed. :ok

Thank you so much for your advice. Unfortuntaely despite pleas on this site I am am unable to find any other VW specialists in my area so I am relying on one mechanic who is a VW specialist but very expensive. I will have to find a garage that can do a rolling road I think. I am just south of Bristol if anyone can suggest a place that could do it.
Many thanks,
Helen.

Stateside tuning will sell you the dells and all the nesessary stuff plus suitably jetted, steve at Gasure UK will fit them, and you can google a rolling road tuner nearer to you who will fine tune them and re-jet if needed
