2nd grinds when cold

Selecting second, especially when going down from 3rd, is a bit difficult when everything is cold. After a while, when it gets a bit warmer it seems to engage ok. But I can't get the image of gears grinding the edges off the teeth when I hear the prolonged grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrthunk. Other gears also make a noise but not as bad, in fact every gear gives a clunk when cold.
Is there anything I can short of start saving for a rebuild? All ideas appreciated.

When did you last change gearbox oil?

Gearbox oil? What is that?
Good reply though, and I guess I should at least look at that. Cheers.

As he said^^^^^^^ change the gear oil and go for some thinner 75W90 semi synthetic GL4/GL5......Might not cure it but certainly improve thing a little.....
You might try bleeding your clutch (slave cylinder end) to ensure the clutch is properly dis-engaging.

Plus double de clutching when cold helps.
